Winter has finally come to Boone, NC. With the prospect of snowy days hanging around the corner, you're going to want to step up your interior decorating game. Whether you're looking to winterize the gang's hang-out spot (aka your living room) or deck out your dorm room in preparation for those spontaneous Netflix dates, here are some snazzy ways in how to do so.

1. String lights.

Every girl wants them. You have to admit that, at least once, you've been drawn in by the warm light. And now, with the holidays approaching, you have an excuse for putting them up that won't make you look too basic. But if you leave them up through next semester, who's to judge? They're just so cute.

2. A plush, cozy rug.

Everything you need to combat that icy linoleum dorm floor.

3. Fuzzy socks for all

Along that same line, cold feet are absolutely the worst. I used to have a drawer of fuzzy socks that my friends would raid when they hung out in my dorm room. Plus, they double as cute holiday gifts!

4. Stock up on hot drinks.

Even more yummy excuses to use your mug collection! Drinks like Hot cocoa, coffee, and apple cider are staples around the holidays. And your coffee maker can even double as a water heater for quick and easy hot chocolate, just add marshmallows.

5. A comfy blanket.

Also doubles as a nice, warm excuse to sleep in late.

6. Or, if you're feeling crafty, a knitted blanket.

Huge, hand-knitted blankets are all the rage on sites like Pinterest. Plus, in only an hour or two, you'll have a gorgeous blanket just made for cold-weather cuddles. Find a tutorial here.

7. Curtains.

Ever woken up to the sun streaming through the blinds, directly into the top bunk of your bed? Invest in some cute curtains, or make your own out some old fabric. Then the morning sun won't wake you up to early, and you can pull them shut to douse your room with a cozy shadow.

8. Throw pillows.

Pile 'em up to turn your bed into an even comfier place to relax. If you have any cool old t-shirts laying around, they can be easily upcycled into your own DIY pillow, like in this easy tutorial.

9. Go Blue.

Studies have shown that the color blue is great for focusing, relaxing, and even lowering blood pressure. Try a blue comforter or rug to transport your room to a whole new level of relaxation.

10. Grab a second set of sheets.

Yeah, it'll extend the time between loads of laundry, but sheets have an even cooler purpose. They can be made into the coziest structure ever created: the blanket fort.

So get out there and winter-ize your dorm room! Beating the last few days before winter break are hard enough, so why not take advantage of the holidays?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
