Many of us are graduating, or moving on to an off campus apartment. You want to find that coffee table that will just tell everyone (read: mom) that you're an adult. Here are 10 tips for finding furniture as you move forward that fits a beer budget, but has elegance of champagne.
Free Furniture
1. Ask For Family or Friend's Furniture
Love that couch thats been sitting in your friend or family member's living room or basement? Go ahead and ask if you can have or borrow it. Seriously, they may even have kitchen or bathroom necessities that you can have as well, fo free!
Cheap Furniture
2. Go Shopping in Thrift Stores
Macklemore may have taken this a little to far, but you never know what you're going to find in a thrift shop. Local ones may be cheaper that big chain ones. There may also be shops with funds that go to charity as well that can be tax deductible.
3. Search Through Consignment Shops
Consignment shops are out to make a profit, and will most likely be more expensive than a thrift store but the quality of the furniture will be better. You may even find some great/ designer pieces at a great price.
4. Stop by Secondhand shops
These most likely may even be more expensive than the consignment shops but will be of similar quality. The owners have bought the furniture so they want to make sure they can turn it on a profit. These stores a definitely worth a comb through.
5. Visit Estate Sales and Auctions
If you live in an older city, this is a great option. You may even find antiques and full sets of furniture at a great price.
6. Stop by Yard Sales
Now you may be staring at someones dresser from the 50s,' but some gold spray paint and a paint brush can create an updated look to something you picked up for 5 dollars.
More Expensive Furniture
7. Shop T.J. Maxx
Now, this place is great. They don't have a whole lot, but they do have the essentials at a very cheap price. This includes some very modern looking furniture. Are you a maxxonista?
8. Visit Overstock.com
Overstock.com has tons of unique furniture at great prices, delivered right to you door. There is zero moving and the maximum amount of convenience.
9. Spend a Day Testing Furniture at Target
It's everyone's secret pleasure, don't deny it. Target has really pretty accent furniture at a reasonable price. It just may not last as long as a piece from a great store bringing me to my final tip;
10. Try Buying Long Lasting Furniture From a Real Store
Go ahead, go to that store. If you find something you really like commit to buying it and having it for several years. At least you know it will last you for a long time.
