10 Movies For Cozy Fall Nights

What is a better way to celebrate fall than to make a blanket fort and have a movie night? I'm personally not a huge fan of the horror genre, so I decided to compile a list of ten movies that encompass the feeling of fall. These are films that bring me nostalgia, and while some are not even Halloween related, they give me a feeling of comfort. So, grab some popcorn and cider and check out these awesome films!

Hocus Pocus

Giphy

No list would be complete without this Disney classic. "Hocus Pocus" is set in the historic town of Salem, MA. Getting in the spirit of Halloween is easy, especially when there are talking black cats and witches rising from the dead. It's comedy with a touch of spooky, and it will leave you wishing you lived in Massachusetts.

The Wizard of Oz

Giphy

Judy Garland in this classic 1930s film has aged so well. Its whimsical nature brings me happy memories from my childhood. If you're looking for a timeless film to watch on a rainy day, then I'd recommend this one.

When Harry Met Sally

Giphy

Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time, "When Harry Met Sally" is a classic story about long-time best friends falling in love. Set in New York City, the seasons change constantly, signifying how long Harry and Sally have been friends. It's a heartwarming film that leaves you feeling sentimental. You'll fall in love with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in this 1989 romantic comedy.

Practical Magic

Giphy

I'm a sucker for Sandra Bullock, and so this was a must-have on this list. Born into a magical family full of witchcraft, the Owens sisters have not always accepted their magical fate. Throughout the movie they have to learn how to navigate darker magic as new problems arises. It is definitely something to add to your "witch" themed movie marathon.

Rudy

Based on a true story, Rudy aspires to play football at the University of Notre Dame, but his personal obstacles get in the way. His character teaches us to persevere and never give up on a dream. The obstacles that Rudy overcomes motivates us to tackle our own. This movie will leave your eyes puffy and your heart warm.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Giphy

I wanted to include the whole series, but decided to narrow it down to the first movie. This is the very first look into the magical realm of Hogwarts. Being a long-time HP fan, this was always one of my favorite films because of Harry's first experiences with magic and being introduced to all of the characters. It's fun and innocent, and it's well before everything starts taking a dark turn (thanks to you-know-who of course).

The Goonies

Giphy

Ah, another Sean Astin movie. Truly a staple of the 80s, "The Goonies" deserves praise for its action and adventure plot line. I like to describe it as a feeling of nostalgia for a time I never knew. It definitely makes me miss those days of exploring outside and going on adventures with my little sister. Plus, the fact that its setting is all rainy and dreary adds a certain cozy effect as well.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Giphy

This is a must-watch every season for my family and I. The animation brings life to fall and makes me wish that my neighborhood trees looked as vibrant. Between sitting in pumpkin patches, going trick-or-treating, and bobbing for apples, this movie packs in everything we enjoy about fall!

Halloweentown

Giphy

Watching this movie today, I'm aware of how cheesy it is... however, I don't care. It's a classic in my book. Every adult that grew up with this movie on Disney Channel knows how badly they wanted this place to exist. A quaint little town that celebrates Halloween 365 days of the year? Count me in!

Kiki's Delivery Service

Giphy

I almost forgot about this movie and its adorable animation. Kiki is a witch in training who is sent off to spend a year by herself to practice her craft. She ends up in a small seaside town with her cat Jiji and learns to overcome self-doubt. I think anyone who isn't particularly familiar with anime should give this a chance because it is truly a beautifully made film.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
