This is basically what happens during college winter break. "J-term", as some universities call it is just a little cool down from fall semester before tackling the next storm that is Spring Semester. Here are ten things that usually happen to every student home for winter break.

1. Sleep

Probably a little too much, but the relief of no classes makes staying in bed feel justified even if you still have to work.

2. Dodge old high school classmates

NO, high school classmates weren’t that bad, but the awkward encounters at the store or coffee shop are something EVERYONE wants to avoid. Just smile and say hi.

3. Spend time with hometown friends

Nothing feels more like home than grabbing a cup of coffee downtown with friends or spending serious time in front of the TV with them.

4. Watch a series on Netflix

Winter break can get boring so starting a new series is usually a good idea and if you use time wisely you can probably finish the entire thing.

5. Spend way too much money or very little money

Either you’re shopping and going out to eat with a bunch of friends or you’re burritoed on the couch. Not a lot of in-between.

6. Engorge in homemade meals

When else are you going to be able to stuff your face with tater-tot hotdish for days on end?

7. Be content with the fact that there are no school responsibilities

Such a weight off your shoulders to not have to worry about exams, papers and group projects for once in a long four months.

8. Then, wish to be back at school

This usually hits about a week and a half after being home. For some its earlier and for a few it never comes. College friends and roommates are people you see every day and it’s a little difficult leaving that.

9. Sleep some more

Possibly to the point of concern from your parents, buy hey, you have the time for it now.

10. Finally get to see family

It’s nice to catch up with your aunts and uncles and grandparents and cousins and all during the holidays and you finally get to spend time with your parents and siblings.

All of those things complied says "winter break" for a majority of college kids. Just enjoy all these things while they last.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
