Thanksgiving is the best. Hands down. What beats sitting around with family, stuffing your face, watching football, and napping the day away? There's not much that does. It's like the pre-game for Christmas.

As a young, broke adult, who's tired of only eating what I can afford - ramen noodles, having a whole day full of home-cooked meals prepared with love is like actual heaven. And, these 10 foods are the clouds of Thanksgiving heaven.

1. Stuffing

Stuffing, more like "stuff my face." Although soggy bread is gross in general, a bowl of it is one of the best things ever. I mean, ever.

2. Green bean casserole

Grandma's green bean casserole? Pass it on over. Nothing beats half a plate of green bean casserole.

3. Lefse

This Norweigan food is food for all. Add some butter, add some sugar, or even add some brown sugar. It's like the better version of a tortilla.

4. Turkey

What's Thanksgiving without a turkey? Not only is it one of the best foods on the table, but it's one of the best traditions, too. Carve the turkey, eat the turkey, love the turkey.

5. The relish tray

The first thing to get passed around, and one of the best. Pickles, black olives, and olives. A plate of sodium has never looked so delicious.

6. Mashed potatoes

Mashed potatoes: a classic. Whether it's plain old mashed potatoes, or mashed potatoes with a family twist, like garlic or herbs, mashed potatoes are always a good choice.

7. Cheesy potatoes

So, what's better than mashed potatoes? Cheesy potatoes, of course. Everything's better with some cheese.

8. Cranberries

Canned, whole, juiced, or in wine, cranberries are an essential for Thanksgiving. Canned cranberries are the easiest part of Thanksgiving. Who cares that it was slopped on the plate with the imprint of the can rings, it's still one of the first things to go.

9. Wine

Whether you're stuck drinking sparking wine or finally with the "big kids" drinking real wine, nothing beats toasting away the holiday. Annnd, maybe getting a little wine drunk.

10. Pie

Last but not least, dessert. Pie. Pie with ice cream. Pie with whipped cream. Pumpkin pie. Pecan pie. Peanut butter pie. Whatever kind of pie it is, the answer is yes.

Blow out the candles, put the dishes away, sit down with your beer, and click on the game. Enjoy your day full of family, friends, and food. Then, let the Christmas preparation commence!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
