While JC the wildcat might say "there's not much to do" in the LBK, there are a ton of great and cute places to eat; many of which are family owned and well priced. This is the top 10 best places to eat in Lubbock, Texas.

1. Rain Cafe

Located on 50th street, the Rain Cafe is almost a hole in the wall. However they serve amazing breakfast all day and their crusted french toast is a classic favorite.

2. Capital Pizza

Back in the middle of Tech Terrace is Capital Pizza, a very popular place among Tech students and arguably some of the best pizza that you will ever have in your life. While sometimes there is a wait depending on the time you go, it is always well worth it.

3. Taqueria Autlan

Also located on 50th street is Taqueria Autlan: a small restaurant with big taste. Taqueria Autlan has amazing and authentic Mexican food.

4. Italian Garden

Situated downtown on Avenue J is Italian Garden, some of the absolute best Italian food at a very reasonable price. Known for their pink sauce and great service, Italian Garden is must-eat in LBK.

5. George's Cafe

Down on 4th street is George's Cafe, with burgers and breakfast all day. It's also not super popular, so it is a perfect place for Sunday's brunch instead of waiting hours at Pancake House.

6. Choochai

If you are looking for Thai food then Choochai is incredible. Down on 19th street sits this little treasure, best known for their spicy pad thai.

7. Spanky's

Spanky's, right across from Texas Tech, is one of the most famous and recognizable restaurants in Lubbock, Texas with their fried cheese and the he-man-woman-hater.

8. One Guy

Also located both across from the Texas Tech and also on 50th street is One Guy. Buy pizza by the slice or order a whole pie, either way it's relatively fast and delicious.

9. Sugar Brown's

While not necessarily a restaurant, Sugar Brown's Coffee Shop on 19th street has amazing baked goods and kolaches that make for the perfect breakfast or brunch.

10. Holly Hop

The Holly Hop on 34th street is cute 1950's style dinner with incredible ice-cream and a working jukebox, it's a perfect first date destination.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
