We carry around these hand-held computers like our hearts would stop beating if we didn't. Most of the time, we use them strictly for contact, work, or social media. One of the best features about smart phones is that there are so many different features that we fail to use. Applications that you can download for free is like finding dollar bills on the ground. And that's what every app on this list is: FREE.  

For the music junkie:

1. Soundcloud

"Wherever you are. Whatever you're doing. The SoundCloud app lets you hear more." 

If that's not convincing enough, I don't know what is. Basically, this app is a great way to explore new music that is not available on iTunes/Spotify. You can create and listen to playlists, follow friends and artists, and listen to music that has yet to be discovered and destroyed by being blown up in the media.

For the dog lover:

2. Weather Puppy

 "Smile every time you check the weather!" 

The Weather Puppy app is a classic weather app, except there is a picture of a puppy that changes based on weather and time. You can even choose your own puppy or use pictures of your own dog.

For the person who's always lost:

3. AroundMe

"AroundMe allows you to quickly find out information about your surroundings." 

So in simpler terms, it helps you find out where the nearest Waffle House is at 3 a.m. in an unfamiliar town. It gives you a list of options to choose from when searching for a specific restaurant or gas station. Or you can use the search bar and type in what you are looking for, and it will bring up a list of things that match your search. 

For the Artsy person:

This app allows you to add custom filters, fun fonts, and hand drawn doodles on your pictures. It also lets you resize and share your creations after you've completed them.

For the person always borrowing money:

5. Venmo

"Send money for free. Cash out to any bank overnight." 

When you borrow money from someone, you no longer need to remember to go to the ATM to withdraw money to repay them. Simply send them the money from your bank account directly into theirs electronically through this app. 

For the fitness pro:

6. RunKeeper

"Track your pace, measure workout distance, chart weight loss, crush training goals and more!" 

This app is the best way to track your fitness. It doesn't only track running either; it will follow you as you walk, bike, hike, and do any other training activities using the GPS in your phone. Every five minutes, it will also tell you the distance you've traveled and your pace. You can have a trainer encourage you along the way, or follow a pre-planned workout as well.

For the camera pro:

7. ProHDR

This app allows you to really get the best out of your phone's camera. It will capture the beautiful sunset you're watching exactly how it is or better. It combines the perfect settings to get a pristine picture bringing out all the color and sharpness that a professional camera would.

For the lonely person:

8. Dog Land

"Dog Land — where my dogs at." 

This app allows you to share photos of you and your dog(s),  meet other people who also have the app, and send messages back and forth to those people. It will also show you where there are pet stores, vets, animal rescues, and dog friendly hotels. 

For the fashionista:

9. ASAP54

"The ultimate way to explore and shop for fashion." 

The great thing about this app is that there is no longer the dreaded "Where did you get that?!" question that has to fly out of your mouth as soon as you see someone with something that you love, while praying that they won't lie about where they got it. This app allows you to take a picture, not only of articles of clothing or accessories, but of anything that inspires you. This app will help you find that must-have fashion item and shop for it. You can type in what you are specifically looking for or you can simply send in a picture and wait to see what pops up. In other words, it is now significantly easier to try to be Carrie Bradshaw.

For the nostalgic person:

10. Timehop

"Timehop helps you celebrate the best moments of the past with your friends. It's like a #tbt everyday!" 

LOL — but anyway, this app basically brings together old posts and photos from your iPhone, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and will send you one of the "blasts from the past" once a day.
