Recently, I talked to one of my friends about albums and how albums themselves aren't being appreciated. Most people listen to singles or tracks of off an album, but never listen to an album in its entirety.
As a music junkie, listening to albums is one of my favorite things to do and I have found that albums, if listened to in its entirety and in the designated order, can have a meaning and can showcase the artists true artistic intentions.
In light of this, I decided to compile a list of the some of the best albums I've listened to. This list is, of course, my opinion and it spans across a few decades. Also, this is not an extensive list and there are many (many) albums that deserve to be on this list.
1. In a Perfect World - Kodaline
This album was created by the Irish band Kodaline. It includes emotional songs and inspirational songs that will definitely take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Not only does the band have an amazing lead singer and killer lyric stile, I noticed that this album should be listened to as a whole, because it has an intentional rise and fall in terms of tone.
2. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Although this album is bit old, I listen to it on a daily basis and it takes the listener back to a time where albums mattered and it was a craft that should be appreciated. You can really tell how much time Fleetwood Mac put into it and how close they are to their music.
3. Blush - Moose Blood
This album was not only on my playlists for months, but it continues to impress me the more I listen to it.
4. Parachutes - Coldplay
I love Coldplay and Parachutes was their first album that really took off, and it was the album that defined them as a band. This album is one of my favorites because it takes you on a journey emotionally and it is most definitely, is a piece of art that everyone can relate to in someway.
5. The Civil Wars - The Civil Wars
I didn't discover this band until later in life, but this was their last album as a group, so just as Coldplay's first album defined their style and tone, The Civil Wars' last album did that for them.
6. Cry Baby - Melanie Martinez
When this album came out I was initially indifferent, I was also a little bit hesitant because it wasn't really my style, but when I gave it a chance it was one of the better albums that I was listening to. Martinez really played into a story for this album, so this album should be listened to as a whole for you to understand what's going really going on.
7. Ghost Stories - Coldplay
Of course, I put another Coldplay album on here. Ghost Stories came out after lead singer, Chris Martin and his wife broke up. There's an obvious movement to this album and it seems like a style that matches the melancholy that everyone was feeling at that time.
8. Obsessed - Dan and Shay
This country album came out this past summer and it was probably always on repeat for me. Dan and Shay did a great job with this album. It wasn't too sad and it had a summery-upbeat beat to it, so it was my favorite album of summer 2016.
9. The 1975 - The 1975
The 1975 has a style no one can really match. Even though this isn't their most recent album that everyone is raving about, it is equally (if not more) worthy of praise.
10. Lemonade - Beyonce
Finally, the Queen B herself. Beyonce created an album that NEEDS to be listened to. My friend and I listened to (and watched) the entire album and we both were in tears multiple times. Many of the songs are normal Beyonce, but it was one of the best albums of the past decade and its detail needs to be listened to because of its message.
