Yup – it’s about that time again. The middle of March is generally marked by Spring Break, a time when most college kids take a week out of reality and enjoy themselves. Whether you’re in Punta Cana or in your bed watching Netflix, the thought of going back to a full schedule of class, work, and other obligations is less than appealing. It’s almost horrifying.
When I start feeling lazy, I like to think of my favorite hypothetical BFF, Amy Poehler. Reading "Yes Please" reminded me that all great happenings in life are usually a long process of hard work, having faith, and taking chances. Amy’s words are always a kick-start for me, so I hope that they can be just as motivational and inspirational for you during this drudge of a time:
1. “Sometimes painful things can teach us lessons that we didn’t think we needed to know.”
2. “The earlier you learn that you should focus on what you have, and not obsess about what you don’t, the happier you will be.”
3. “Take your risks now. As you grow older you become more fearful and less flexible. And I mean that literally. I hurt my knee this week on a treadmill that I wasn’t even on.”
4. “It’s never overreacting to ask for what you want and need.”
5. “I love bossy women. I could be around them all day. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading.”
6. “Be easy on yourself. Have fun. Only hang around people that are positive and make you feel good. Anybody who doesn’t make you feel good, kick them to the curb. And the earlier you start in life, the better. The minute anybody makes you feel weird and non-included or not supported, you know, either beat it or tell them to beat it.”
7. “I want to be around people who do things. I don’t want to be around people that judge or talk about what people do. I want to be around people that dream and support and do things.”
8. “I like the person who commits and goes all in and takes big swings and then maybe fails or looks stupid; who jumps and falls down, rather than the person who points at the person who fell, and laughs.”
9. “You can’t look stupid if you’re having fun.”
10. “Great people do things before they’re ready. They do things before they know they can do it. Doing what you’re afraid of, getting out of your comfort zone, taking risks like that – that is what life is. You might be really good. You might find out something about yourself that’s really special, and if you’re not good, who cares? You tried something. Now you know something about yourself.”
