I've Finally Finished My Eighteen Years Of Schooling, Now What?

On May 22, 2020, I virtually graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor's in Arts in English. Since I have obtained a higher form of education, what's next for me? There are quite a few paths that I can take after my 12 years of education. I can go to Grad School, take up a trade, find a normal job, or just freeload off my parents (don't do that). Well...I'm going to take a different path.

Before I apply for a job, I have to go through something called job training. What's job training? Job Training is when a potential applicant prepares for employment by performing a set of tasks that were provided, demonstrating its performance, and its an opportunity for the worker to imitate the demonstration and subsequent feedback. I don't know if I'll get through that specifically but that's a general idea.

I was, at first, against this idea because I thought I was capable enough to handle a normal job. It turns out that I don't. I have gone through many interviews, and I would get an email that read, "Thank you for applying but unfortunately you were not picked for...", you get the idea. With this job training, I might be able to nail an interview without sounding like a bubbling idiot or a robot.

Am I getting this job training because I'm a failure who can't obtain employment? No, that's not the case. I can apply for a job if I want to but I want the interview to be successful and result in employment. Interviewing isn't the only thing that I will (probably) be focusing on. The training will also focus on my strengths and weaknesses, how to interact with my hypothetical colleagues (on a professional and personal level), and how to properly perform tasks promptly and correctly.

It might take some time for me to find stable employment due to this whole pandemic, but once everything goes back to normal, I'll start the training immediately. If I want to get out of my childhood bedroom sooner, I should take this opportunity to brush up on my interview and social skills. Getting job training isn't a bad thing, you just need to improve on some skills so you can score that dream job. You don't want to be turned down a thousand times don't you?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
