Upcoming Movies To Look For In 2014

3

2013 didn’t seem to offer much at the box office, at least not until the last few months of the year. The frontrunners for the Oscars this year, Gravity, 12 Years a Slaveand American Hustle, were released in October, November and December respectively.
The last year had its rare hits throughout the year, but was anything but consistent. The Great Gatsby, Despicable Me 2and This is the End were the most memorable in my book.
So far, 2014 is looking to be a big improvement. There are two noticeable trends: book-to-movie adaptations and superheroes. Marvel has booked a new superhero movie release consistently for the next few years. And let’s not forget the Batman vs. Superman match-up that’s headed our way.
Get your wallets ready, because 2014 is going to be a great year for movies!
Book-to-movie
Divergent. Based on the novel by Veronica Roth, this film is set in a dystopian future where a test predicts your future. With a strong female protagonist, this trilogy has a chance of following in The Hunger Gamesfootsteps.
The Fault in Our Stars. Get your tissues ready. This adaptation of John Green’s novel is sure to have you sobbing. It’s the story of two teens who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love. I’m tearing up already.
The Giver. In this adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel, Jonas is chosen to be “the receiver of memories,” and enters into a mentorship with the Giver (Jeff Bridges). It doesn’t take long for Jonas to realize that his seemingly perfect world isn’t exactly as it seems.
Heaven is for Real. The novel by Todd Burbo and Lynn Vincent rose to popularity very quickly after its release. The story of a young boy’s journey to Heaven and back is sure to be a heartwarming movie for the whole family.
More books to movies: Gone Girl, The Maze Runner, If I Stay, Vampire Academy, Serena, The Monuments Men.

Sequels
22 Jump Street. They’re back! The hilarious duo of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are headed to college.  The red band trailer is a sure sign that this sequel will be as great as the original.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel fans, prepare yourselves for the next chapter in the hunky superhero’s story.
Dumb and Dumber 2. Finally, the sequel I’ve been waiting for my entire life. Lloyd and Harry are back for more in this upcoming film. With appearances from Sea Bass and Billy in 4C, my hopes for this follow-up are high.
Horrible Bosses 2. That’s right, the disgruntled employees are back, and so are their bosses. The first one was so funny, I’m a little worried that this one won’t be able to contend.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Like I said earlier, superhero movies out the wazoo. Peter Parker juggles high school, a girlfriend and the bad guys – poor Spidey.
The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Peter Jackson is making a killing off of this franchise.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Who will Katniss choose? Peeta or Gale? What’s in District 13? In the most depressing book of the trilogy, Mockingjay is sure to give you PTSD and still answer all of your questions.

Comedy
Neighbors. Having a fraternity move in next door? No thanks. Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne are forced to wage a war against Zac Efron and his fraternity. A Robert DeNiro themed party? Count me in.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I can’t help but be excited for this remake! I still have the original movie on VHS. Megan Fox as April has me a little apprehensive, but I’ll definitely give these heroes in a half shell a chance.
Sex Tape. As much as I never want to see Jason Segel’s naked butt again, this movie actually looks pretty great. After husband (Jason Segel) and wife (Cameron Diaz) find that their sex tape goes missing, they go on a frenzied search to relocate it.
Into the Woods. Another star-studded cast has me excited for this twist on fairy tales. Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt play fairy tale characters come to life. Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

Other
Godzilla. No, I’m not messing with you. The trailer for this movie looks pretty epic. It’s action packed and you get a shadow glimpse of the big lizard. Oh, no!  Look out Tokyo.
Maleficent. Angelina Jolie’s role in this remade fairy tale looks wicked. In this twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty, we see the other side of the story. Is Maleficent as evil as we were always led to believe?
Foxcatcher. Channing Tatum, Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo team up in this movie that is based on the real story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz and the death of his brother. Mark Schultz wrestled at OU in 1981-83 and won three of our NCAA championships.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
