Top Five Scary Movies

When the leaves begin to change colors and the wind blows the crisp smell of Fall through the air, I tend to spend more Friday nights in the TV lounge with my sorority sisters than strutting around Greek row. Why you might ask? Because on top of Fall being the perfect time for Pumpkin Spice Lattes and football, I also get to look forward to Halloween. Everything from carving pumpkins and dressing up, to binge watching scary movies, all makes for a memorable season. Here are the top five scariest movies my sisters guarantee will give you goose bumps.

1. The Halloween film series. This horror film series began in 1978 and revolves around the main character Michael Meyers. On Halloween night, when Meyers was  six years old, he murdered his older sister. Then, 15 years later he returns to stalk and murder more teenagers in his hometown on Halloween night. The series continues with disappearances and returns of Meyers as he gets ages through life.

2. Insidious. For all you paranormal believers, this supernatural horror film is based on a family trying to prevent evil spirits from possessing one of their sons, Dalton, who is in what they thought was a coma from falling off the attic ladder while trying to investigate. Turns out, Dalton was not in a coma, but had been cursed with something called the astral project, which is the ability to leave his body and travel to different places. Unfortunately, the paranormal investigators believe that he traveled too far and got lost in a spiritual realm, a place for the tortured souls of the deceased.

3. The Saw franchise. While some believe this franchise is more gruesome than scary, it is sure to make you think twice before walking alone in a parking garage or dark alley. John Kramer, better known as, “Jigsaw,” captures his victims and tests their will to live by putting them through physical and psychological torture known as the “game,” instead of killing them. Some games include self-inflicted injuries, murdering another human, and choosing between themselves or others. Jigsaw's games are strategic and planned by stalking the victim many weeks before the attack. The famous quote that haunts every viewer is, “Do you want to play a game?” You have seven films to chose from.

4. When a Stranger Calls. Many college students make extra cash by babysitting for friends and family, but after watching this suspense thriller they’ll cringe with every ring of the phone. The family is really wealthy with a huge home with walls that are solid glass and overlook a lake. As a storm brews outside, the babysitter receives multiple threatening phone calls from someone she thinks is a prankster, who actually ends up being a brutal serial killer. The house alarm goes off and she notifies police. After being informed by police that the calls are coming from inside the house, she finds her friend and the housekeeper murdered upstairs. She fights for her life, and the kids’ lives when the killer approached her.

5. Annabelle. This film opens with a scene from another supernatural film called, The Conjuring, where two young women and a young man are telling the Warrens about their experiences with the haunted doll, named Annabelle. The young couple is expecting their first child when they heard a murder occurring at their neighbor’s house. When the police arrived they found a blood symbol drawn on the wall with a single drop of blood on the doll's face that was in the arms of the neighbor. After finding out the murderer was a girl named Annabelle Higgins, the young couple threw away the doll, but only to find that it had mysteriously reappeared in their luggage after the move to their new home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
