Shake It Off!

Taylor Swift's newest single describes college students all too well.

Shake It Off!

We stay out too late. We have nothing in our brains. That's what people say.

We go on too many dates, but we can't make them stay. At least that's what people say.

Who cares what "people" say? We're in college. We are supposed to stay out late and go on too many dates. Maybe the having nothing in our brains part is a little far fetched though, I mean we DO go to Ohio State. Duh.

Bottom line: Taylor is a lyrical genius and is saying what everyone in college is thinking, or should be thinking.

Taylor's messages are always straight to the point and she doesn't sugarcoat it. This particular song of hers hits home because I am constantly worrying too much about what other people think instead of doing what makes me happy.

I have gotten better about this over the last few years, but I could always be better. Because just like Taylor, I've got this music in my mind saying, "It's gonna be alright." Because the haters are gonna hate and the fakers are gonna fake.

Let 'em. Don't concern yourself with others and just be the best person that you can be and do you, boo boo. No one can determine your happiness except YOU. No one can tell you what to do, where to go, what to dream or what to wear. Well, unless you still listen to your mom, but she's the exception. No dream is too big and you can go anywhere you set your mind to.

So instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing around you and responding by a) Wishing you were more like them; b) Bringing them down by judging them; or c) Just sitting on your butt not doing anything, GET UP AND GO AFTER WHAT YOU WANT! No one else is going to do it for you and the people that you are concerning yourself with probably could care less about what you're doing, so who cares? If the people you are worrying about do not show an effort toward you or seem to care, then why should you?

We are at that bittersweet time in our lives when we have to let go of things from the past. We have to move on from toxic relationships in order to receive nurturing ones. We have to let go of some past memories to make new ones. High school may have been the peak for some people, but it doesn't have to be for you. So move on and do what's best for you.

Your twenties are your selfish years, so be selfish with them and think about yourself. Think about others too, because that's human nature, but ultimately think about what is going to be best for you in the long run. That's what matters. As Nora Roberts once wrote, "If you don't go after what you want you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place."

Shake off the negative. Bring in the positive. Dream big!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
