For incoming freshmen, it is your first taste of living on your own and balancing real college classes. For those who are returning to Gainesville, it is another semester of football game days, late nights at Library West and crazy themed socials. However, any student can benefit from these simple tips.Â
1. Get Organized Early
During the first few days of drop/add week, I like to go ahead and see my advisors if I have any concerns, and then begin to get organized. I compile all my syllabi and write down important dates in my planner. Then I like to get whatever school supplies I need and label them appropriately. It may seem obvious and mundane, but it really does help to do all of this now, instead of scrambling to get everything together once classes are in full swing. Â
2. Plan AheadÂ
If you know you have a major exam coming up right after road trip weekend, start early! Plan out your study schedule, and everything you need to get done—school-related or otherwise—before you leave. That way, you will have gotten some studying in, and won’t have to scramble to get the Smokin’ Notes packets and do your laundry the night before the exam.Â
3. Don’t Overload Yourself
I learned from experience that it is better to take a realistic course load than to try and be an overachiever and stress yourself out. The same goes for extracurricular activities. It definitely is important to challenge yourself and get involved around campus, but don’t do so much that you have no time to just take a breath and relax.Â
4. Have Fun!Â
The fall semester is one of the most exciting times of the year. There is so much to do and look forward to. Personally, I cannot wait for the night games and away functions in the coming months. On top of it, there is a whole new season of socials to get dressed up for. Good luck to all of you this fall semester!Â
