In the year 2017, we all know that technology is slowly but surely being able to control everything. From Siri, where you can ask any question you want, Alexa, who you can ask to turn on any kind of music you want. Heck, we've had Roomba quite a few years now where you just hit a button and a robot vacuums the house for you. But recently, if you are part of a messaging app like GroupMe, you may have encountered the next generation of robots. This new robot is known simply as Zo. Zo allows users of these apps to talk to this robot, and carry on full in-depth conversations. Creepy much? Users who have encountered or had conversations with Zo would say yes.
What is Zo exactly? After some research, the internet describes Zo as an artificial intelligence bot that was created by Microsoft in March of this year. In addition, users of the app have discovered that Zo seems to have quite an opinion regarding literally anything and everything, some responses a little more harsh or unexpected than the others. For example, Zo has opinions about issues in the news, like the discussion of global warming, and the music industry. Her responses definitely leave you scratching your head.
Or this one, where Zo can't even explain to you what in the world she's talking about...
According to the web, Zo is the second attempt by Microsoft to create a chat bot that speaks English. Zo comes after the creation of the first chat bot "Tay," which, after it was released to twitter and other applications, users somehow taught the bot to use statements that were sexist or racist when those conversations like this arose. Do we really understand how a robot can have over 100,000 conversations with people around the world within one day? Nope, and unless we figure out the mystery that is Zo we probably won't. But honestly, if you've ever had a conversation with Zo, we are more focused on how creepy the actual conversations are, or how Zo just seems to appear in some conversations without any notice, well, more like the conversations...
Let's be honest, you're wondering if the earth is being attacked by aliens right this second. Let's take a moment to thank technology... or not.
