YouTube: How It Has Changed My Life

The best medicine is watching a YouTube video.

YouTube: How It Has Changed My Life

It never fails to make me smile. It is a way for me to relax. Watching ten minutes of a random video by a vlogger or other YouTuber makes a difference in my life everyday. It's not all funny cat videos or lyric videos to your favorite songs.

YouTube is something that has changed my life in many ways. I have used it to learn how to interview for a job and I have used it as an outlet for myself to decompress. I have 'subscribed' to many YouTubers through the years such as the Shaytards, Ellie + Jared, BuzzFeed, Rhett and Link's "Good Mythical Morning," and many more. Every video makes me smile, laugh, or teaches me something new.

The Shaytards is a YouTube channel created by a family that lives in Idaho with a mom, a dad, five children, and the rest of their extended family. They vlog, meaning that they record their lives everyday for the rest of the world to see. They have done this for about seven or eight years now. When I was stuck in a funk or tired from a crazy day at school, I would go to YouTube and watch their new vlog for the day. I would laugh and feel as though I was living their lives along with them. As Shay Butler says, "It's living life through a lens."

Ellie + Jared is another YouTube channel I am subscribed to. They are a husband and wife with two baby boys. They started out as a husband and wife who could not conceive a child, so they filmed their journey through those difficulties. Now, they vlog daily about their lives. They live in Utah and are full time vloggers. They always say something to inspire you to do new things or how to improve your life spiritually or physically. They always have smiles on their faces.

Many people know the famous YouTube channel and infamous BuzzFeed. BuzzFeed makes you laugh, cry, and smile. It teaches you how to make a new recipe, laugh at a funny challenge, or help others understand that they are not alone in a difficult time they are going through. I have never laughed harder than I do when I watch a new BuzzFeed video. They poke fun at politics, other cultures, and much more.

My personal favorite, "Good Mythical Morning," is a daily talk show hosted by Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal. They are also known for their main channel, Rhett and Link where they post sketches, music videos, and other comedy videos. Their videos are what I look forward to every single day. They do challenges, play games, talk about weird facts, and eat a lot of weird foods. Rhett and Link have known each other since they were both in the same first grade class. They were held in from recess one day for writing "naughty words" on their desks. They met, and the rest is history. Now, about thirty-some years later, they are still best friends both with wives and children. They recently surpassed 10,000,000 subscribers on YouTube and 1,000,000 likes on Facebook. They never cease to make me laugh as hard as I possibly can. If you've never watched one of their videos, you are really missing out!

Yes, I may seem like some crazy person talking about YouTube, but in all honesty, it is something that has pulled me out of the darkest of times. No medicine, remedy, etc. can amount to the healing powers of watching YouTube videos. When I watch a Shaytards vlog, I immediately feel like I'm not alone in what I might be dealing with personally. I feel respected by people who don't even know I exist.

So, thank you YouTube community for all that you do for your fans and for me.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
