In no specific order, here is a list of 10 binge-worthy shows for your New Year:
1. The Office
This show has somehow wormed its way into our pop culture, and after watching it, I can see why. The nonsensical lives of the Scranton, PA branch of Dunder-Mifflin paper company was immediately something I was into. If you love Parks and Recreation (another amazing show), you’ll love this. You can find this on Hulu.
2. Brooklyn nine-nine
A cop comedy with Andy Samberg and Terry Crews, two of my favorite comedians. From SNL to White Chicks, these two actors play off of each other really well, and the plot line is surprisingly addictive. You can find this on Hulu.
3. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
A great BBC comedy based off of a Douglas Adams novel. It’s strange and weird, and usually comes out of left-field, much like Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy. You can find this on Hulu.
4. Bob’s Burgers
It might be a cartoon, but it isn't just for your children. Most people have heard of this show, and have loved it because of its relatable characters, and dysfunctional family unit. You can find this on Hulu.
5. Stranger Things
At first, I was very skeptical of the show because everyone was binging it. A fandom rose very quickly from the ground, and around the time Season 2 dropped, I finally figured out why. Stranger Things was made for the children in us, and our parents. I can’t express how much I love this show. You can find this on Netflix.
6. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Who doesn’t love girl power, and David Boreanaz? Not only is this show a really cool throwback to the 90s and 00s, but it’s also a comic book series; so, if you also like to read and collect comics, this one's for you. You can find this on Hulu.
7. Doctor Who
This show has one of the biggest fan bases in the world; with some of the weirdest, and funniest plotlines I’ve seen. My mom has been watching Doctor Who since the 70s, and at a very young age I was also exposed to this fun-loving, quirky, and sometimes dark show. You can’t find this show on either Hulu, or Netflix, but you can view it through an app called Showbox. All it takes is a google, and a download to view.
8. Hannibal
Now, this show is gory and not for the weak of stomach. If you like beautifully written television, then this is what you’re looking for. The cinematography, music, and plotline are just a few of the reasons this show is very dear to me. While I am also a fan of Bryan Fuller’s ACB masterpiece, I am also a fan of the novels it was inspired by. Thomas Harris’ novels are some of my favorites, and I find myself looking to them anytime I want to get lost in a novel. You can’t find this on either Hulu or Netflix, but you can find it on Showbox.
9. The Crown
this new show details the life and reign of the current Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, and like most of America I was enthralled by the mystery of the royal family at one. It’s a portrayal of the side of the royal family that we’ve never been able to see before. I watched season two of this show in one day. You can find this on Netflix.
10. The X-Files
I’m not a fan of aliens, or conspiracy theories, but I am a fan of this show. The X- Files is fully ingrained in our pop culture as the spooky, and dark thriller that we all know and love. If you’ve ever seen the phrase “ I want to Believe,” you’ll find where it came from through this show. You can find this on Hulu.
