All my life, I have sucked at being a woman. In fact, it took me nearly twenty years (I'm twenty-one for reference) to accept that there is no definition of being a woman. I always thought I didn't dress girly enough, I didn't sound girly enough, I didn't like girly things. As a teenager, I was six feet tall, played lots of sports, never wore make-up, and routinely wore leggings and hoodies to class. That being said, and in the least sexist way possible, I have found something that I am so good at and I finally feel like I can do something in the realm of being "womanly."
Over Thanksgiving, my best friend's mother texted me and asked me to bring something to eat at their dinner. So I looked at the ingredients in the cabinet. Upon noticing I found a bag of chocolate chips. Chocolate chip cookies it was. Easy enough. I pulled out my phone and googled a recipe. And I want to share this recipe with you because of Holy Mary Mother of God. These are the best chocolate chip cookies that have EVER been made in my household. You have to understand. My entire life, no one in my family could ever cook anything so this was a huge deal that my dad was eating them like crazy. He bought me more ingredients to make him more cookies this week.
NB: With the holiday season upon us and you're looking to save a bit of money on gifts, making food as gifts is a really good idea to save a little money.
This recipe is called "Best Chocolate Chip Cookies" by Dora. (I'll link it for you at the end of the article) But if you are in a similar position that I am, not very womanly and not a lot of redeeming qualities, or you just want to impress your family, Dora has got your back. This recipe has 4.5 stars out of 5. Reading some of the reviews, as I always do while investigating something from the internet, some guy named Charles Sampson called these cookies "vERRY eXXCELLENT cOOKIE!" and he worked as a baker for 10 years. Then there was Bekah, who is nine years old and made them for herself and her family and they loved it! Side note: Bekah's mom also said she can't make cookies that good.
As a personal anecdote, these are the best damn cookies I have made, and I am not a good baker. Without further ado, Dora's highly reviewed and rated "Best Chocolate Chip Cookies" recipe.
Ingredients List
- 1 Cup of Butter, softened
- 1 Cup of White Sugar
- 1 Cup of Packed Brown Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract
- 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour
- 1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 2 Teaspoons of Hot Water
- 1/2 Teaspoon of Salt
- 2 cups of Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips (Use more if you like a lot of chocolate)
- 1 Cup Chopped Walnuts (optional)
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Ready in: 1 Hour
Yields: About a dozen and a half cookies
1. Start off by preheating your oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit (175 Degrees Celcius)
2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth in a mixing bowl.
3. Beat in the eggs one at a time
4. Mix in the Vanilla
5. Dissolve baking soda in the hot water then add to mixing bowl
6. Add Salt
7. Stir in Flour [I did it one cup at a time to avoid making a big mess]
8. Mix in Chocolate Chips by hand
9. [Suggestion: use aluminum foil to line your cookie sheets, it helps the cookies cook evenly and makes for an easy cleanup.] Drop batter by the spoonful onto UNGREASED pans (or aluminum foil)
10. Bake for 10 Minutes or until the edges are nicely browned.
Tips from Me:
-I've baked these cookies twice now, I found that 12 Minutes does the job, 10 was too short and looked too doughy. I cooked it for 5 extra minutes and the bottoms were burned. The second time I did 12 minutes and they came out perfectly.
-The aluminium foil really helps and makes your life 10 times easier
-When the cookies finish, let them sit on the pan out of the stove for a minute before scooping them off onto a cooling rack. They are very soft when they come out and need to harden up a bit.
With all of this being said, I hope the opportunity for you arises to make some damn good chocolate cookies. I know with the positive feedback I received from my friends and family, I will be making more of Dora's delicious chocolate chip cookies.
Keep it real Kent State
