A lot of people give concert-goers flack for a “lack in musical taste,” but what they don’t understand is that they are completely missing their chance for the experience of a lifetime.
We can talk about how DJs “just press buttons and act like they are doing something,” but I don’t want to get into that incessant argument. You don’t have to like electronic music to have a great time at a concert. I wasn’t a big fan when I went and saw Zedd in Chicago, but I had the time of my life.
Everyone who attends EDM concerts goes for the same reasons: music and the experience. This creates an amazing atmosphere where everyone simply gets along. The crowd wants to have a good time, and they aren’t afraid to meet new people and ensure they have a great experience too. Tai Wu explains EDC Vegas as “an all day party with thousands of the closest friends I never met.”
To add to that, Giuseppe Maranto describes Spring Awakening as, “A once-in-a-lifetime experience. You feel the music moving through your body. The energy and vibes you get from the people around you is indescribable. You feel like you are part of a family. Everyone is one. Nobody judges you no matter what happens. All different walks of life come together to become one big family.”
Our culture is ever evolving. As the EDM scene continues to grow, so do these weekend concert series. They have become bigger, louder and more elaborate. New concerts are being created and the ones already established are becoming legendary. I have seen many close friends, who used to bash electronic music, be converted to that guy that attends every concert. People I would never think to see at these shows have been sending me snaps and pictures rubbing it in my face how they were having an amazing time.
So if you haven’t been to one of these insane concerts because you don’t like the music, or whatever your excuse may be, I suggest you just do it. It is an amazing experience where you will meet some characters, for lack of a better word. Grab some experienced friends and take a trip out to the next concert near you, you won’t be disappointed.
