Social media can be a great tool or a contributor to an individual or company’s demise. What the user posts online is interpreted as an extension of what the user stands for. Worse, what is posted on the internet leaves a digital footprint that lasts forever. In the Information Age people rely heavily on information they look up. This doesn’t just apply to Google but also social media sites. In fact many people expect social media sites to pop up when looking up a persons name or company. Further, many people find it weird and unreliable if they do not see these sites. My opinion is that social media does not give a voice to the voiceless so much as it is an expected medium for the people who have a voice to use. Similar to real life only the noteworthy peoples message is shared vastly. The only exception to this is having a post go viral.
