If there's one thing that stuck with me through my childhood it was something my mom said. No matter what, you should try to say yes to things. Of course, this doesn't mean things that would risk your health or happiness but since being in college I've been starting to try to take my mom's advice and say yes and it's changed my outlook on life and improved the quality of it.
I know what you're thinking: say yes to what?
Well, how many times have you turned down getting ice cream or food with your friends because you're worried about your weight? Or skipping a late night session with your friends because of a test or work the next day? These are the types of things you shouldn't be saying no to.
Sure, being responsible and caring about your mental and physical health is important, but so is the quality of your life. There's a time and place for staying in and having alone time, but there is also a time to let yourself do something new.
I started saying yes and it changed my life. I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone and it's given me opportunities and friendships I never thought I'd have. I've done a wing eating contest in front of over a hundred people, I've played flag football when I didn't even understand the game, and I've gone to work and class exhausted from staying up with my friends. These are all things I probably would have said no to if it wasn't for what my mom had told me.
So I encourage you all to start saying yes to things. Even if at first you're nervous or worried about the consequences. I promise going out of your comfort zone is worth it and you'll be surprised at the doors it will open up for you. These are the years to do it.
