Why I Love to Write

I never really thought about it, but something in me wanted to talk about how writing has become a part of my life

You ever go on to your social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter, and it asks you "What's on your mind?" or "What's happening?". It's pretty much what I feel every time I'm writing an article or a journal or paper for class.

You'd think that writing would be easy right? All you have to do is just put some words together, and you have yourself a sentence. But in reality, it's a bit more complicated than you think.

I've always had a passion for writing ever since I was little. I've always wondered how authors put together their novels, screenwriters putting a movie or television show together, and I thought to myself "Hey, I could do that!".

I began writing in journals mainly due to reading The Diary of Anne Frank. Seeing how one little girl's diary was able to become such a hit of a book that it was even made into a movie and a play spoke wonders of just how much writing can do.

And think about it. Our favorite books, movies, tv shows, songs, they all come from someone taking the time to sit down and write out what is going through their minds. Are they writing about a certain time in their life, an emotion that they are feeling? Half the songs that we listen to are mainly a singer talking about a past experience in their life. Take a listen to any Taylor Swift song and you're sure to hear that!

And think about your favorite song while you're at it. Why do think it's your "favorite". It's because we connect to that song on such a personal level and it makes us think about a point in our lives where we have felt happy, sad, or angry. Most of the songs that I like bring such a nostalgic feeling that it reminds me of friends or family.

When I think of writing, I think of it as an inner voice that is inside of us (which if you think about it, it is probably the exact thing that writing is). It's a form of expression that we usually don't say out loud to others but keep tp ourselves as a form of comfort. The reason we write in diaries or journals is that it is our own safe haven. The things we write in journals are things we keep to ourselves. If you're writing a post or an article, then it gives people the chance to relate to how you are feeling.

Like a song, or a character in a movie or play or tv show, people tend to relate to a character that they see themselves as. Or a song that they can relate to. All because the writer took the time to jot down what was going through their mind.

I'm not sure if I would make a living as a writer, but I would like to (I have a lot of things that I would like to be). Writing for Odyssey is a start and it makes me happy when people read my articles and can relate to how I'm feeling or saying. Writing is such a powerful form of expression that it has become a part of our everyday lives. It's strange that I've never really thought about it until now, but now it gives me a chance to appreciate writing more.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
