Music: It's one of the biggest aspects of human culture since as far as recorded history can go. It depicts the trends, values and pleasures of the time. Music has the strange ability to unite people, and has been used as an influencer throughout time. It's so powerful that throughout time, religious groups have banned its use because it elicits raw emotion and passion within people.
Everyone knows the top 40, and the great names of music’s' past for all different genres. However, the music scene is ever changing and an ever great musician has to have an original story (like Superman, but less tragic). This is one of the major reason I support local bands.
Everyone has a friend that's in a band. I had never truly paid attention to local bands until I came to college. Once here, I quickly learned that have a major influence on the area they're in. They often provide free or inexpensive concerts that provide a break from adult life and a chance to get lost in the music and energy of the crowd. They bring your favorite covers and introduce you to their own original pieces that quickly work their way into your heart and your favorites playlist.
I am a big supporter of local bands because they are the perfect example of the true American Dream. They have to work harder than any major musician because they have to perfect not only their own songs, but also the songs of famous bands to guarantee a good crowd and people being able to be a part of their music. They practice weekly, often at odd times because they still have to have other jobs to support themselves and their band. They have a dream and strive every day to make that dream a reality. So, when you hear of a concert on campus with a bunch of local bands, go give it a chance. You never know who will become the next big thing, and they could become something you look back on years from now, and remember the time you got a new experience.
Here are some of the local bands in my area, and I highly recommend you check them out!
When the Clock Strikes, GoodFellas, and King High. These are all rick bands, but each of them bring something to the table!
