Aside from the show Live.PD depicting the day and the life of an officer, why are officers under so much scrutiny? It’s because certain incidents that have happened in the past years lead the public to a certain perspective and certain thinking toward officers.
This started when citizens started a stigma against law enforcement. It's not just the officer, it's the people as well. There should be an equal amount of respect established between the citizens of a community and the law enforcement officers, if respect is not there it only furthers the tension between the two leaving officers no other choice than to stand their ground and remain alert. No one, not even your police officers, is above the law.
The job of an officer is not only supposed to protect and serve but to enforce laws equally and with integrity. It is our job as citizens to educate ourselves and each other in order to learn these laws to better understand them.
With all of the rioting and movements going on against police officers, it's causing a major catastrophe by supporting and following along with acts to disrespect police it doesn't help either.
Law enforcement officers do not deserve this treatment, they deserve to be thanked for what they do because they sometimes risk their lives to keep us and our families safe along with arresting suspects who aren't so easy to handle or deal with knowing they have a family to go home to of their own at the end of the day.
Law enforcement officers aren't just "cops," "police," or "the law" they are people too, and just like you and I, they deserve just as much respect as any other human on this earth.
Along with the negative views of law enforcement already established, another big role in this is the work of media and people sharing videos from their own perspective. Seemingly documenting the horrific things that have occurred, such as shootings of people holding weapons coming toward an officer.
Just because a tragic accident of an officer shooting someone happens, that doesn’t mean criticize all law enforcement for the incident. Just because it happens to one community, doesn't mean it will happen in every community.
It is very tragic when someone loses their life, but, most often, they are showing signs of carrying a weapon or trying to hurt the officer. The officer isn't doing it because they want to or because they are racist; at all costs, they would rather let a person live than take their life.
Americans and law enforcement officers need to stick together and support their each other and rekindle a positive environment of integrity and strength in order to help solve the crime going on, along with the issues embedded within communities. Departments can't do it alone, they need the help from the individuals in their community as well.
Learn to appreciate what officers do for us because without them daily life would be hell. Next time you see an officer, tell them how much you thank them and their service instead of acting belligerent or disrespectful against them based on past incidents because they don’t deserve it.
They protect our lives from heinous crimes and deal with your stupidity when you run a stoplight/stop sign. They deserve thank yous and support from their communities--not disrespect.
Thank you all law enforcement across America for what you do!
Almighty God we pray to you in heaven up above. Watch over our dear police officers and protect them with your love. Please guide them as they keep us safe both day and night and hold them firmly in your care should danger come their way. Give them true strength and courage as they serve til duty's end and one more thing to ask dear Lord. Protect their family and their friends.- Police Officers Prayer
