Why I'm Nervous For The 2020 Election

It's pretty far away, but I am beyond annoyed at the Democratic party for the way things are going.

Why I'm Nervous For The 2020 Election

First off: the Democratic party needs to get their act together before 2020. It is as simple as that. Yes, I am a registered democrat and I lean liberal on pretty much every issue. But... I am extremely nervous for the upcoming presidential election.

In my personal opinion, I think that almost anyone can lead our country better than our current president, Mr. Donald Trump. What makes me so nervous is that there are SO MANY Democrats who are announcing their presidential campaigns. I feel as there's new news everyday about a future potential candidate. I love seeing women candidates, (the future is female!), but the amount of people who have announced they will run scares me, how will people even be informed about candidates beliefs if there's so many of them?

My hope is that the Democratic party can band together and unite as a whole. This way there is a bigger chance that Trump will not win. As much as I can't stand Trump, I want candidates to promote their own platforms and not make their campaigns all about how we must "get rid of Trump."

I feel like everyday we live in a society where tragedies occur and take so many lives. We have a huge gun problem, which our current president does not act on. We have a discrimination problem between different races and genders, which the president contributes to. We have a climate change problem, which the president doesn't think it is as serious as it is. As a young woman who has had to grow up in this climate, I've learned how nothing is getting accomplished because our president is so hostile and concerned about the "other side" attacking him.

What I want in a candidate (even if it wasn't a Democrat), is someone who will put the issues I value, (such as climate change, gun control, the wage gap, etc.) first before it's party. Shouldn't the job of the president be to represent and better protect its citizens instead of revolving their entire presidency around party vs. party?

If you want to check out a full list of Democrats running to be the party's candidate, you can look here. Please check it out and inform yourself on their beliefs and future goals, and don't just vote to vote against Trump. Together we can accomplish good as a country if we put first the things that really matter like the safety and well-being of U.S. citizens.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
