I'm Obsessed With Orangetheory Fitness, Here's Why

To me, it's so much more than a workout.

I'm Obsessed With Orangetheory Fitness, Here's Why

If you're unfamiliar with Orangetheory, it is a fitness studio chain with guided workouts. Each studio has treadmills, rowers, and a strength floor. You exercise in a group setting lead by a coach.

I have been an Orangetheory member since July 2019, and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I've made. Before joining, I felt lost at the gym. I was intimidated by weights and would ultimately just stick to cardio. Since I felt so lost at the gym, I lacked the motivation to work out.

Orangetheory was different.

I was hesitant to attend my first class because I knew I wasn't at the same fitness level as others, and my goals felt out of reach. However, the coaches made me immediately feel comfortable, and I was more motivated than ever before.

Each class is 60 minutes and focuses on endurance, power, strength, or a combination of the three. In addition, according to Orangetheory's site, "Your coach will guide you through our five different heart rate zones: resting, easy, challenging, uncomfortable and All Out, telling you when to push harder and when to pull back for recovery." Your heart rate is displayed on the screen during your workout, based on a heart rate monitor you wear.

Above, you can see the results of my first workout at Orangetheory since the gyms closed due to COVID-19. It felt challenging after many months without it, but it feels good to be back.

The goal is to spend a minimum of 12 minutes in the orange zone, (hence the name Orangetheory). Your heart rate monitor also calculates your splat points, which is the combined time spent in the orange and red zone.

The reason I love Orangetheory goes far beyond the physical benefits. Completing an Orangetheory workout makes me feel on top of the world. My day is always brightened after every class.

If you're thinking about giving Orangetheory a try but are worried about COVID, have no fear! As studios are starting to reopen, social distancing measures have been put into place. Upon arrival at my first class back at the State College studio, my temperature was taken, I was given hand sanitizer, and it was required that I wore a mask into the studio. Classes are also at a lower capacity, allowing for social distancing.

I highly recommend that you try Orangetheory no matter what your fitness level is! Your body and mind will thank you, trust me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
