Why 2016 Sucked For The World, But Not For Me
Haley Pierson

2016 was a rough year for the world. There are videos, memes, and articles buzzing around the internet about how awful 2016 was as a whole. Sadly, there was a lot of tragedy and distress in the world during 2016, but personally it was a good year.

2016 was full of firsts, new experiences, and growth. I grew as a person more in 2016 than any other year. I moved into my first house, traveled abroad, and had fun through it all.

I got the opportunity to travel to Europe for the first time. I studied abroad and made incredible, new friendships. I traveled to 15 cities, in 7 countries, in just over 6 weeks. I learned a lot about the history of these countries as well as how to navigate these cities without speaking a word of the native language. I learned that living in the United States is a huge blessing and that I needed to move out of the bubble I live in and broaden my horizons. I tried numerous new foods, attended operas, and swam at some beautiful beaches.

I also balanced an internship, 2 jobs, and an executive position in my sorority while not drowning in my school work. I learned to balance my social life, work, and education. I made sure I gave all of my commitments my best as well as scheduling in some fun.

I continued to make new friends and cherish my old friendships. I made some great memories with incredible people. My friends continously inspire and support me and I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.

All of these expriences and people made 2016 a great year. I am not a big fan of New Year Resolutions, but I do hope that 2017 is as good to me as 2016 was.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
