Homosexuaity
Homosexuality is a large issue in the church today. The reason is people in the church see it as such a “gray area” in today’s culture. The reason for this recently is because of the pending legalization of gay marriage. The evangelical free church believes in loving everyone, but hating their sin. The same that goes for liars goes for those who struggle with homosexuality.
Although I believe in this view, the church is composed of strong hypocrites. Now, that seems contradictory, considering I’m a Christian! But, aren’t we all little hypocrites and Pharisees? I’m not condoning the act of being gay, yet everyone struggles with their own sin. I think someone who asks to be accountable for their homosexual struggle is more honorable than one who openly gossips about that person’s gay tendencies. I think the church needs to focus more on the heart of the sinner, than the individual sin, because we all have the hearts of sinners, yet only some are repentant.
Spiritual Gifts
The evangelical free church believe that some of the spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12 are not fit for today. Some of those gifts are the gifts of tongues, interpretation, and prophecy. The church believes these gifts were only to be used in the times of the Bible. They believe it would be a distraction in the church today.
However, I strongly disagree. I know people very close to me who possess these spiritual gifts. Because they are not allowed in the church, they use them in their personal prayer time. I think that we need to be accepting of all of the spiritual gifts, or none at all, because who is to say which ones cannot be used in the church today? If people still possess the gifts, I believe they should be able to use them to further God’s kingdom.
Muslims
The view on the Islamic people in the church is varied. However, most Christians see Muslims as terrorists and extremists. We love them as a church body because we want them to see what we see, and leave their religion to join ours.
But aren’t Muslims only trying to do the same? They think they are correct. Christians force feeding Christianity to a Muslim is the same as a Muslim expecting us to accept Islam. We are both trained our entire lives for the moments to share the Message of our God, and we face off at a standstill. Why? Christians only have a “Jesus” answer for everything, not hard biblically sound fact. We need facts to prove the non-Christian wrong because we are both trained to convert each other. But isn’t that what Apologetics is all about? The church needs to realize we are not the only missionaries out there, but we are all striving for the same goal: conversions. The church just needs to work harder for our God.
