When life gets hard, and you don't know your right foot from your left foot, and you feel like nothing will make it better, I promise it will. Now I know that rarely will things help you in these moments, but there are a few things that do. Not all of them, but sometimes it's the really simple things that make the hard times a little bit more bearable.
The little things that remind you that the sun is still going to come up tomorrow. The moments that help you breathe in the good and exhale the bullshit.
1. Light a really good candle and watch the flame. Inhale the scent.
2. Put down your phone for 30 minutes. Walk away from the world.
3. Take three minutes of deep breathes. Three whole minutes too.
4. Text that friend that you lost touch with. Tell them that you're still thinking about them.
5. Take a long, hot, bubble bath. Even if you don't like bath. Just lay.
6. Listen to those songs that put you in your feels. Then stop.
7. Take a walk. No phone, no music, just observe.
8. Drink some good, hot coffee. Just sit and drink.
9. I mean also drink some wine, wine never hurts.
10. Call your mom and dad. Don't cry or ramble, just have a conversation.
11. Dance around your room. Even if you can barely get out of bed, just dance.
12. Listen to a fireplace crackle. Whether it's on a screen or in person, just listen.
13. The sun is still going to come up tomorrow. Don't let that go.
14. Watch an old movie. I'm not talking 2000s; I'm talking 80s rom-coms with the young Patrick Dempsey.
15. Remember that things can change, and people do change. Just remember that.
16. Find the comfiest blanket in the world and wrap yourself so tight in it.
17. Eat some ice cream. Eat the whole pint of ice cream. Who cares.
18. Smile. Smile mostly when you don't want to. But most importantly, smile when you want to cry.
19. Lay in bed with someone. Anyone. And just hug them.
20. Watch the stars. And remember that even though half the stars you are looking at now are dead, they still shine the night sky.
These things won't solve your problems, and maybe they won't stop your tears, but they will help. They will remind you of the reasons you are here.
They will remind you how strong you, how powerful you are, and how special you are. They will comfort you when nothing else is.
