When What You Want Doesn't Line Up With God's Plan

When it happens, that's when you need to listen to Him most.

There is no doubt that I am the kind of person who likes having everything planned. Whether it be my career, trips, or scheduled events, I want it to be according to me. It's good to plan ahead. However, there will always be times when it isn't meant to work out.

It can be the most frustrating feeling: when what you want doesn't match with God's plan. As humans, we want to be in control of every aspect of our lives. It provides us with a sense of security and power. But not everything is up to us. Sometimes, you hear that voice telling you to go in another direction. A direction that you never planned on going toward.

When that happens, it's conflicting. It's scary. The natural reaction is to just go with what you want because that is what feels safest. But when it feels scary, that is the time to stop. Stop chasing and just close your eyes and listen. What direction does God want you to go in? It's hard to quiet down the opinions of other people and your own worries, but you shouldn't let any of that stand in the way of what you are called to do.

It's impossible to see why God is pulling your life in another direction. It makes it hard to follow Him at times. However, no great discoveries were made by staying in the comfort zone. You need to take the leap of faith. No matter how blind you feel, trust that God is holding your hand into the unknown.

Whenever I feel conflicted, I remind myself that God has a greater plan than I do for myself. I need to let Him steer my life. It can feel like you're giving up control like you're losing that security blanket. But it's not like that at all. You're letting the creator of the universe lead you down the right path.

The clashing of what you have planned and what God has planned is going to happen a lot. It's part of being human. When it happens, that's when you need to listen to Him most.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
