Every year, I look forward to going on vacation to the beach in the summer. I love spending my days soaking up the hot summer sun on white sand, or having a pool day. I, like many others, overpack for any occasion, especially when it comes to packing for vacation. I have come up with a simple list that helps me organize my suitcase in order to have a successful beach vacation!

1. A bathing suit

A bathing suit is absolutely essential for any beach vacation. Whether it is a day at the pool or soaking up the sun at the beach, throw in a cute bikini or one piece in your suitcase!

2. A cute beach bag

Everyone needs a cute beach bag to store all the essentials needed for a beach day. Find yourself a cute beach bag and fill it with sunscreen, earphones, a few quick snacks, and of course, a fruity drink to sip on your vacation.

3. A beach towel

I love picking out a cute beach towel to bring to the beach. This is a must-have for a day spent lounging at the pool and soaking up the hot sun!

4. A good book to read

I always love to bring a book with me on vacation. I try to find some time where I can bury myself in a good book! Some of my favorites are: Wonder, Girl, Wash Your Face, Big Magic, or The Magnolia Story.

5. Sunscreen and sunglasses

Wearing sunscreen while on vacation is so important. Do yourself and take care of your skin! Throw in some 30 SPF in your beach bag for each day! Another item on my packing list is a great pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses are absolutely necessary for those hot sunny days spent laying out on the white sand.

6. A cute sundress or maxi dress

Although I love to spend most of my vacation on the beach, I make sure to pack a few cute outfits in my suitcase. A sundress or maxi dress is the perfect go to look for a night out on vacation. A sundress or maxi dress is an effortless look that is sure to show off your new summer glow.

7. Pool float

Although a pool float can be a hassle to pack, it is an essential item to bring on vacation. Lately, pool floats have been making a comeback, and they come in all different shapes and sizes. If you see me on vacation, I will be floating in a pink donut float!

8. Flip flops

Grab yourself a light weight versatile pair of flip-flops that can be worn on and off the beach! My recommendation for places to find a good, affordable shoe are TJ Maxx or Old Navy.

9. A cooler packed with your favorite drinks

It is so refreshing to have a cold drink while sitting in the hot sun. Whether it be a water, beer, margarita or strawberry daiquiri — fill up your cooler with all your favorite drinks that will be oh so refreshing!

10. A beach playlist

A beach trip is not complete without the right beach playlist on Spotify. Spotify has pre-made playlists that are so easy to download, or you can create your own playlist with the music of your choice. Once you've created your playlist, just stick your earbuds in and block out the world!

Next time you are heading to a beach vacation, do not forget to pack these essential items! I hope you enjoy your vacation as much as I will enjoy mine! Happy packing!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
