My Vacation To Ohio Was The Perfect Start To Summer
Stephen Quinn

Have you ever gone on vacation? Do you remember it? Where did you go? Who did you go with? How long did you go for? Would you go again? Would you go with the same people? Was it your first?

Now, before you tell me about your first vacation with your family, which I'm sure was great. However, when I ask if it's your first, I'm talking about your first vacation without your family. The first one that you have with your friends.

You see everyone obviously goes on vacation with their families and some even with their friends. For me, I went on my first vacation without my family. I went with friends-- well it was with my boyfriend and his friends who are now becoming mine, at least I'd like to think of them as my friends too. We went to Sandusky, Ohio. We were going to Cedar Point amusement park. We didn't go for that long; we only went for five days, May 29 to June 1.

Jordan and I stayed at his house until it was time for us to leave for the train. Stephen's mom took us to the station in Providence. Our train was scheduled to leave for 6:45 am and would arrive in Washington DC at 2:02 pm, and from DC to Sandusky was from 4:05 pm to 4:02 am. However, our train to Sandusky was late because of about 3 different delays. Both train rides were long, sleeping on the train was not very comfortable and luckily we had brought snacks with us for the ride. We did eat once we were in DC.

We finally were getting close to our destination, Jordan and Stephen were sleeping as I was able to enjoy the view from looking out the window. We finally arrived in Sandusky, Faith's mom was picking us up from the station to take us to the hotel. The hotel was called the Knight's Inn. Faith's mom told us that Faith chose this hotel because Jordan and Stephen loved anything to do with Knights.

By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was around 8 in the morning. Faith's mom told us that we should go bug Faith and Jack, so we did. We woke them up and just chilled in their room for awhile. The boys were playing catch up and were being obnoxious which is normal but mostly Jordan and Jack were. Soon we decided it was time we should eat and get changed so we could go to Cedar Point. Faith's mom took us to the park then went back to the hotel.

We arrived at Cedar Point. Honestly, I wasn't sure I'd actually go on any of the rides, but I did go on 3 (4). Jordan and I went on 3 as the others went on a few more. We did end up eating at Corral and had lunch. The park closed at 10 and we planned on staying the entire time, but we were getting tired and sore from walking the whole time. We decided it was time for us to leave at around 8.

The park was awesome. The rides we went on were a blast, we couldn't stop laughing. As we were on the rides we kept making jokes the entire time. Jack and Jordan played a guessing game and won Faith and me a stuffed dog. We also realized we got burned, but we didn't realize how bad until later.

Before we left we wanted to stop at one of the gift shops. We all got something for us or someone in our family. As we were leaving we tried calling Faith's mom, but she was sleeping, so we decided to walk. We didn't even make it fully through the parking lot before we got stopped by a security guard for the park. He took us to DQ and then Faith's mom picked us up.

After we got to the hotel we wanted to go in the pool, however, Jordan, Stephen and I couldn't get into our room so we all went and hung out in Jack and Faith's room. We talked for a little but then we all just laid or sat down and fell asleep. We woke up for a bit, but then we soon crashed again. Finally, we were able to get in the room and we just ditched the pool idea and took showers and fell asleep.

We soon woke up maybe at 10-11 pm. We were hungry, Faith's mom went to the store and Jordan went with her to get food. Soon after they returned we stayed up for a little while longer. After about 2 hours I crashed as Jordan and Stephen stayed up for a little while longer.

On Thursday, we did absolutely nothing. We did plan on going out maybe but we decided we would just stay in. Jack and Faith woke us up at 7 am because Jack had to leave. We fell asleep after they left, but then soon woke up again. Jordan and Stephen were getting hungry and they wanted Mcdonald's. They decided they would walk there and I choose to stay in the room so that I could get some writing done. As I was there I was able to finish my article as well as let the workers fix the lock to our room.

The boys soon returned, I had to let them in, they were soaked. They told me how beautiful it was on the way to Mcdonald's and on the way back it down poured. The bag with the food was ripped in half and the tray for the cups was just so damp from the rain it fell apart. We enjoyed the room to ourselves because Faith's mom let us be by ourselves as she went to see a friend of hers.

The boys played on their switches which is normal and I just watched Blue Bloods on TV. Faith's mom soon returned with Faith's siblings. We all just hung out in the room as Jordan, Stephen and I were waiting for when we had to leave for the train. We watched The Jungle Book as we waited. Our train was for 12:40 am, but we soon found out it was going to be late.

We finally got on the train, as soon as we sat down we fell asleep. We did sleep most of the way. We arrived in DC at 2:02 pm, we had lunch while we waited. We were able to board our train at 3:55 pm. We were able to find seats almost right away, Jordan and Stephen played on their switches as I went to sleep. We were able to talk about our trip and how much we enjoyed ourselves.

We made it back to Providence at 12 am, Stephen's mom picked us up and took us back to Jordan's house. Then we came back to my house, I was happy to be back in my own bed. The next day I had to go to work so I had to go to bed right away. I was able to tell my coworkers about my trip.

I enjoyed Ohio as well as Cedar Point, I would love to go again and yes I would go with the same people. I do have to admit that I thought I would be left out of most of the conversations. You see Jack, Faith, Stephen, Jordan and Faith's mom all play games and I don't. I thought that they would all talk about the games and I wouldn't know what was being said. However, they didn't really talk that much about them, which I was happy about. I feel like it brought us closer as friends.

I do recommend going somewhere with friends, it might bring you closer together like it did for me. Where will you go?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
