Many know of Hooters as being the restaurant with great wings, great beer and great girls. Some people are afraid to go into Hooters because they think it is sexist and demeaning to women. But, as someone who works in this industry, I can assure you that is not the case at all.
I have been working for Hooters for about six months now. During my time there I have made great friends with not only the girls, but as well as the cooks, managers and guests. What many people don’t understand is how much work is done by the Hooter girl. We run our own food and bus our own tables, we have to stock everything, refill ice and change the beer kegs.
Hooters, or at least the one I work at, doesn't have any bar backs or busboys. When it gets very busy, we have the managers help us but most of the work is done by the girl. People don’t realize how much work the Hooter girl actually does, they think we just take the order and stay pretty — it is so much more than that!
We have to do all the work and still have our hair and makeup looking flawless and camera ready. As for the uniform, you have to be a certain size, the size only goes up to a size medium, which some people describe as discrimination. As Hooter’s girls, we aren’t considered “servers,” we are called “entertainers,” which is why we are allowed to wear our hair down and have fake nails. The uniform is pretty precise, we have to have full hair and makeup every day for work and always be ready for the camera. Our uniform must be clean and fit correctly, we have to have “flaps” on our shorts which basically means your butt isn’t too tight in the shorts.
Before we go into work they line us up and check and make sure we meet the standards, nails done, either French or a neutral color, hair and makeup done, clean uniform, as well as having everything we need for the shift.
Being a Hooter’s Girl is not an easy task, you have to stay fit and look your best at all times. It can be a hard job at times but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
