What If We Just Stopped

What makes your opinion the only one that matters?

Every day on Facebook you can scroll and look at the political posts, people fighting about their beliefs and why they are the right beliefs. What if we just stopped. We stopped telling people they are wrong simply because their opinion is different than ours. We stopped bashing other people because they look or think differently about things. We stopped complaining about how someone offended someone else by saying something inconsequential. This is America. Being able to have different opinions is what makes this country great. Being able to express our different opinions without fear of being bashed and been called intolerant is what would make this country greater. If you disagree with someone's stance on something, that is great. You have all the right to do that. But that doesn't mean you should shout at them or threaten them simply because they have that difference of opinion. An opinion is a statement that can not be proven right or wrong. So therefore they can't be right but the hard truth is, neither can you.

Maybe instead of telling someone, "No you're wrong" when they voice a different opinion, we should listen. In the end we might still disagree but at least we were accepting. Who knows, we might actually learn something about a different point of view that we hadn't thought of before. Everyone has a voice and everyone's voice matters. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I have a right to mine just as you have a right to yours. That opinion could be an opinion of religion, political stance, or what some celebrity said or did it is still my opinion and it is still your opinion. WE can disagree on opinions. However, someone shouldn't say that they are tolerant and then be intolerant when someone comes along and disagrees with you. The United States of America is a melting pot: a collection of races, languages, traditions, and of opinions. Embracing that is what makes this country better than others. We shouldn't be afraid to voice our opinion because we know the feedback will be hurtful and unnecessary insults to character and intelligence.

We can have our opinions without destroying someone else's. What if we just stopped calling Trump supporters racist simply because he is the best choice in their opinion? What if we just stopped calling those who agree with Colin Kaepernick un-American because they believe people are oppressed? What if we just stopped with the insults and name-calling and let people have their own opinions whether we agree or disagree? This is America we are all entitled to our opinions. What if we just stopped forgetting that?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
