10 Places You Have To Check Out When In The Queen City

Charlotte, NC, one of my favorite places ever! Not only is it an incredible place to grow up, but it is such a cool place to visit for the weekend! Whether you are a foodie, a shopper, or an extreme water sport lover, there is something for you in the Queen City.

1, Jeni’s Ice Creams

Did someone say ice cream?? I would like to think that I am somewhat of an ice cream connoisseur, and, being very picky with my opinions on this sweet treat, I am not going to sugar-coat my review. So, when I say that Jeni's Ice Creams has the best ice cream I have ever had, I mean it. They make their waffle cones right in front of you, and even have dairy free options. This dessert is unbeatable. (You have to try the Gooey Butter Cake Flavor!)

2. Tupelo Honey

This brunch spot is a chain, but you would never guess it! Their menu is complete with anything from sweet pecan pancakes to an egg, potato, cheese and avocado grits bowl. Not to mention, their warm biscuits are drool-worthy.

3. White Water Center

This place is so cool! The white water rafting is incredible in itself, but they also have concerts and events that you will not want to miss.

4. Davidson Main Street/Farmers Market

Davidson is a small town, north of Charlotte, that is famous for its small shops, vintage soda shop, and all around charm. Saturday mornings are adorable with the farmers market tucked between Summit Coffee and the Pickled Peach restaurant. Pick up some fresh veggies and grab a King of Pops popsicle!

5. Latta Plantation

I love Latta Plantation! There are countless trails to hike or bike, with different levels of difficulty. It comes up right next to Lake Norman for a perfect photo opp'!

6. Birkdale Village

Birkdale, or "The 'Dale" as I like to call it, is an outdoor mall with a movie theatre on one end and a housing complex on the other. There are so many cool shops and restaurants to try out! Birkdale also has seasonal concerts on the green, of which you cannot miss!

7. Front Porch Sundays

Scheduled for a certain Sunday of each month, Front Porch Sundays is a hybrid of a flea market and a farmers market. Sycamore Brewing opens up their lot to many different vendors to pitch a tent and sell their goods from 11-4! There is everything from vintage clothing and jewelry shops to food trucks! Definitely a must if you have a free Sunday.

8. 7th Street Public Market

This venue is home to so many cool places! It is a large marketplace home to vendors such as Not Just Coffee and CLT Find. Such a cool place to check out!

9. Hawkers Asian Street Fare

This restaurant is absolutely incredible. It's an order as you want kind of place where you order several different items and share with your group! Placed directly across from Jeni's Ice Creams, it is the perfect spot for a dinner out with friends.

10. Superica

This Mexican joint is right behind Hawkers and Jeni's and is yet another incredible foodie spot. They have a queso that is something of daydreams and fruit juices that are begging to be gulped. The rice and bans alone are enough to make you want to come back, not even to mention the enchiladas or tacos.

Whether you live in Charlotte, or are visiting for a long weekend, you cannot pass up these incredible spots to grab a bite or have some fun!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
