I don't know about you, but the winter months can be a bit dreary for me. The excitement of Christmas is over, and spring break feels like centuries away. In the winter, it's easy to feel cold and tired all the time. Here are 14 ways to stay creative even in the seemingly-dull winter months!
1. Read a book.
This may sound boring to some people, but trust me. If you find the right book for you, it will bring life to the drabbest of days!
2. Go on a photoshoot.
GiphyPhotography is one of my favorite creative outlets because you can never run out of things to take pictures of! Grab your camera or phone and start snapping pictures. You'll be amazed at the cool things you'll capture.
3. Paint a room in your house.
Yes, it's kind of a big undertaking, but painting a room is a great way to get creative and enjoy the finished product! You'll love the satisfaction of seeing your completed work.
4. Watch a new movie.
GiphyWatching a movie may not seem creative, but you'd be surprised at how inspiring movies can be. You never know what you'll be inspired to create after watching a new movie!
5. Paint.
Even if you don't think you're a good artist, painting is a great way to be creative. It can also be quite therapeutic. Grab some cheap paint from the dollar store and paint away!
6. Find new music.
GiphyFinding new music can be exhausting at times, but the end result is so rewarding. Invest some time in finding new music, and your creativity will definitely start flowing.
7. Go to a new place.
Traveling is great for creativity, but it can be expensive. Instead of stressing over travel plans, take a day trip somewhere in your state. Visit a natural park or an at museum. Maybe you'll see something new and make new memories!
8. Write down your thoughts.
GiphyWriting is probably my favorite creative activity so I'd highly recommend it. Writing is such a great way to release your emotions, stir your creativity, and work your mind.
9. Find a new DIY on Pinterest.
Pinterest is great for many things. I'm always super thankful for Pinterest when I'm not sure how to channel my creativity because Pinterest is absolutely full of creative projects to work on! Open up the Pinterest app, search for "DIY projects," and you'll have enough ideas to last a year.
10. Go for a walk.
GiphyIt's cold out so bundle up! I love taking walks because I get lots of ideas for writing, and I find neat things to take pictures of. Taking a walk outside is a fun way to get your creative juices flowing.
11. Spice up your Instagram.
It may sound a little silly, but sometimes I like to spice up my Instagram when I'm feeling creative. Change your bio, switch out your profile picture, or add some cute highlights to your page!
12. Style yourself.
GiphyAnother way to liven up the dreary months is by giving yourself a makeover. Put some new outfits together, do your hair differently, or try a new makeup look. Use your creativity to give yourself a new look!
13. Start a bullet-journal.
You've probably seen the bullet-journaling trend on Pinterest, and I definitely recommend it for those who are looking for a new project. Bullet-journaling is a great way to release some inner creativity because you can literally journal about anything, and it's super adorable! Start with pages like "Books I'll Read This Year" or "Netflix Shows I've Watched."
14. Learn the basics of an instrument.
GiphyIt may sound daunting, but learning to play an instrument is a great way to get creative. Learning basic chords on the guitar and the piano isn't as difficult as it sounds, and it opens up all kinds of doors, like songwriting.
The cold seems to just suck the life out of us sometimes. These 14 activities can help bring back some life to the drab winter months and get your creativity flowing again. Happy creating!
