I wouldn't consider myself "well traveled," but I spent my high school career traveling to different states every year. I have seen beautiful buildings of Victorian architecture and I have eaten the most delicious food I have ever had during these travels.
Spending four years in a constant desire to travel gave me the burning passion to keep finding the best places around me. I want to see the best restaurants, events, arcades, etc. The list is still growing, but I do have a few places I highly recommend you visit.
1. Hershey Park
In my junior year of high school, I traveled to Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania. One thing you should know about me is, I don't ride roller coasters or anything that goes high up in the air, but I love all spinning rides.
Hershey park is separated into different countries, which also has special themed food (which I recommend trying it all). Each part have rides for every single person and if you happen to like roller coasters, the wait time is extremely short.
Not to mention, you have to go through the Hershey factory first and it smells like Heaven.
2. Boxcar Bar and Arcade
I went to Boxcar Bar and Arcade (Greensboro, NC) recently and I fell in love with this amazing place. Not only do they have classic arcade games (Pacman, Tetris, Mortal Combat, etc.) they also have console games, Dance Dance Revolution, and so much more.
You get tokens to play each game with. It is four tokens to a dollar and trust me, you get your money's worth. My boyfriend and I played for hours and hours. I recommend the Space Invaders game.
3. Historic Williamsburg
This trip took place my senior year of high school and I am not one for history trips. History is my least favorite subject, but this specific tour was incredible. The buildings are incredibly beautiful, not to mention you can walk through most of them.
Their are actors on site dressed in authentic clothes and they tell you all the history behind the houses. Everyone was so nice, the sky was cloudless, and the history was astonishing.
4. Charleston Harbor Tours
If you like boats, you have to do this if you are ever in Charleston, South Carolina. This tour was three hours long, but we traveled up and down the coastline of South Carolina, which had the most incredible views.
My favorite moment was when we saw dolphins swimming alongside the current of the boat and seagulls flying around us. The boat is super spacious with a top and bottom deck to enjoy the water.
5. Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta is by far one of my favorite places on the planet and I couldn't choose only one place within the city. I suggest drinking every sample at the Coke factory, seeing every animal at the Aquarium, and eating onion rings at the varsity.
This was my first trip in high school and I still think a piece of my heart was left in Georgia. A man played bucket drums out side of the Coca-Cola factory and people were so nice. I do suggest the Hard Rock Cafe because you will see so much music memorabilia it will blow your mind.
6. Wiseman's Overlook
In Linville, NC, there is an overlook that made me 100% speechless. I stepped onto the platform and you can only see trees for miles. Nature takes over the skyline and the fresh, untainted smell of the Linville Gorge is the best. You will never forget looking at this, I promise.
7. Grandfather Mountain
See that bridge? I walked all the way across it and they do not call it the "mile-high bridge" for nothing. Every puff of wind blows it back and forth, which honestly makes you fear for your life. But, if you can cross it, the scenery on the other side is incredible. I suggest it in the fall when the trees are the most colorful. This is in Linville, NC as well!
