Why Did 'Venom' Get Such Bad Reviews

Did the critics watch the same movie that I did?

"Venom" recently came out worldwide and the reviews are in, the critics said that it was bad. I was discouraged to watch the movie after I saw Rotten Tomatoes give it 30%, but I wanted to give it a chance. Thankfully I watched it because honestly, it was fantastic. The critics grilled the movie for not having an identity. They questioned if it was a comedy film or an action film. I would argue that it was both, and I don't see an issue with that. The movie managed to be unexpectedly funny while supplying plenty of action. The art was fantastic and the character of Venom looked amazing. Tom Hardy should win an Oscar for his phenomenal performance as the scary looking alien. The movie was ten times better than what the critics gave it and you need to watch it.

The main issue the critics saw in the movie was the lack of an identity. In my honest opinion, the critics look too hard for a specific "identity" in movies. How can a movie be bad if it is both a comedy and an action? The overall point was that the movie was entertaining. Who cares if there was no specific identity. On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score was 90%. If the audience gives it three times better of a score, maybe the critics are missing something. There were times in the movie where you laughed, felt on-edge, and felt heart-warming. We shouldn't give critics so much power over what movies you should and should not watch because then "Venom" wouldn't be viewed by anyone.

Critics also argued that the story was bland and unoriginal. I can agree that the movie was not perfect, and there were a few slow parts, but it was far from bland. Heading into the movie, everyone assumed Venom was a bad guy and Tom Hardy (Eddie), would become evil. The plot twist came when we found out that Venom was actually becoming good. The main antagonist for Spider-Man turned out to be good. That was such a crazy twist and it was far from "bland". It was creative, and a good change of pace.

One thing the critics and I agreed on was the performance of Tom Hardy. As I watched Hardy play Venom, the insanity I saw brought flashbacks from Heath Ledger when he played The Joker. Both actors fit the role absolutely perfectly. There were times during the movie where I forgot it was an actual movie. When Hardy would talk to and act against his inner "Venom" it seemed extremely genuine. You felt as though you could see and connect with Hardy as he tried to fight "Venom" out of him. The pain and sickness even made my stomach turn.

The critics absolutely shit on this movie. It was far from 30% and you should check it out yourself. It will give you the thrill of a superhero movie, and the jokes of a comedy. Don't let Rotten Tomatoes influence you, because you may have missed a hidden gem in "Venom."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
