Vaping is a healthier alternative to cigarettes — both for you, those around you, and the environment.

Today we are going to talk about what vaping is, where it all started, and what you should look for on your first visit to a local specialty vape shop.

History of vaping

The idea of electronic cigarettes began in 1930 when the first patent was granted.

This patent may not have actually produced a prototype.

In 1965, another patent was granted, and a prototype was created. This e-cigarette was possibly never filled with a nicotine solution and never became commercialised.

By 1979, one of the pioneers of computers paired with his doctor to create studies on nicotine delivery, and produced a vape device that was commercialised but soon failed due to numerous faults.

This was the introduction to vaping. The device relied on the evaporation of the nicotine and not actual electricity.

Through the 1990s, there were several attempts to make the first of what were then considered nicotine inhaler devices.

There were a few that were similar to modern devices, but these would not stick around or become popular, just yet.

It wasn't until 2003 a Chinese pharmacist successfully created the first commercialised e-cigarette as a healthier alternative to smoking.

By 2006 e-cigarettes and vape devices gained popularity and began to take shape into what we know now as the modern vape device, cigalike.

Leading to vape devices becoming popular worldwide around 2010.

Why it's better than cigarettes

As previously stated, the start of the modern vape device was created in China as an alternative to smoking, this was after the creator’s father died of cancer from smoking heavily.

Vaping is better than smoking cigarettes due to there being far fewer chemicals in vape juice.

This means you inhale less toxins and dispel less second-hand toxins into the air.

A standard vape device also does not produce smoke as a cigarette does since vape devices heat the vape juice to produce an aerosol or vapour which is then inhaled and dispersed in the air.

This vapour only lingers for a few seconds and then dissipates.

Finding the best vape device for you

When you first switch to vaping, it can be a rough experience, filled with coughing and strong throat sensations.

To give yourself the best vaping experience, keep it simple.

Find a cigalike or vape device with a single button that activates the draw process.

Buying a disposable device will allow you to experiment until you find the right setup, though there are plenty of rechargeable and refillable devices that are straightforward and easy to use.

As far as vape juice, try to pick a plain or minty flavour with a higher VG to make for smoother throat sensations.

Vaping is relatively new to our area, hitting New Zealand shores in the mid-2000’s.

It has become known as a better alternative to cigarettes, since it has fewer chemicals, leaves less waste, and has less impact on others.

Take a trip to your local speciality vape shop today to find the best device for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
