Many would argue that holidays like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Valentine’s Day are unnecessary. Some will state that it is important to dedicate and remind the people in your life that you care about them every day, not just on one particular day of the year. Well, if you are the type of person who fails to keep in contact with your mom, dad, husband, wife, children, or any loved one that’s something you need to sit down and reassess. The rest of the world, I hope, is not that cruel and heartless.
Many associate Valentine’s Day as a day for two people who are madly in love with each other to have a nice dinner and some hot ass sex. A heart-shaped bed, some heart-shaped chocolates, and a dozen roses. Therefore, everyone who is single as fuck can’t possibly enjoy the 14th of February.
We live in a time where we all know that this day is not just for all the couples out there. I've spent every Valentine’s Day in my life sending cards and chocolates to my best girlfriends over some smelly boy in high school. And even this year, my girlfriends will still be my valentines on top of my first male valentine. This day is not meant to bring people down and feel negative because they do not have a significant other. This is a day full of love and care for every person in your life.
Valentine’s Day is a day to give a little extra to the people you love. It is not an excuse to forget about the ones you love and then rise again on the 14th of February to show them you care. It is a day in which you show them a little more affection than you already do. A day in which you bake things and send cards to your loved ones or, in fact, don’t get them anything! Because it is not about what gift you get them that shows your love for them, it’s really about how much you tell them you care.
Being single doesn't mean that Valentine’s Day is not for you. They would have made a day called “People in a Relationship Day” if they really just wanted a day strictly for people in a relationship. This day is meant to tell the people in your life that you care about them. Sometimes people feel obligated to buy something to show their love and how much they care for the other person, but in reality, if that’s what it takes to prove to someone how much you care about them, then you should think about what is going on between the two of you.
You don’t need to have a fancy ass dinner at some expensive place or buy them anything to prove that you love them. These gifts should come from the heart if you get them anything because the truth is, no amount of chocolate or cards will make a person happy. That is all just temporary. What is really important is the amount of time you spend with a person and what you tell them rather than what you buy them.
