Valentine's Day: Why Not Every Day?

Two hearts are intertwined together in a rapid chain reaction

Love is once again in the air on Valentine’s Day! It's an annual celebration of love, romance, and passion that occurs on February 14th. My point is, why should only one day in the year be allotted to unconditional love amongst loved ones? According to me, love is a psychological phenomenon in which there are no boundaries attached to it. It is an uncontrollable and irresistible sensation that is strongly related to the heart and to the mind. Also, love is something that doesn't need a specific day in order to be celebrated. Love is something that should be a part of our daily lives and should be celebrated till our last dying breath.

On the other hand, there are various dynamics of love. Alongside romantic love with spouses or girlfriends/boyfriends, there can also be love for parents, friends, and teachers. Love is not always dedicated to romance, sensuousness, and passion. According to well-acclaimed biological anthropologist Helen Fisher, “Around the world, people love. They sing for love, they dance for love, they compose poems and stories about love. They tell myths and legends about love. They pine for love, they live for love, they kill for love, and they die for love. Romantic love is an obsession, it possesses you. Anthropologists have found evidence of romantic love in 170 societies. They've never found a society that did not have it.”

Love is a universal emotion which cannot always be fully expressed in words. Oftentimes, the intoxicating and revealing eyes do the talking. Along with the passionate embrace of romance, there is also heartbreak which can tragically occur. A common scenario of heartbreak is the notion of unrequited love combined with one-sided love. As human beings, we are not always in complete control of who we give our heart to. It is something that comes into people’s lives like a gust of wind, which can either blossom into a huge ray of sunshine, or it might leave a person skeptical for quite some time. In addition, there are also romantic relationships which develop due to attractions or infatuations. If a mutual attraction occurs, then there is a high probability that love followed by marriage will take its course. However, infatuations are known to be short-lived romantic series of episodes which start bombastically but ending in a very secretive manner.

Just like life is a learning process, so is love. Love is a such a driving force and a galvanized mechanism that continuously increases with time and separation. Two hearts are intertwined together in a rapid chain reaction and the chains can either break apart or join together to form new bonds.

Furthermore, according to well-acclaimed author and columnist for The Times of India Twinkle Khanna, “The tidal wave called Valentine’s Day is already heralding its arrival in a flurry of red hearts but does love really have anything to do with the heart or is it all just a chemical compulsion driven by the brain?” Essentially, the underlying key question here is whether love is fully biological, chemical, or just an amalgamation of both of these scientific processes.

This is quite a mind-boggling question and hence, I’m leaving this as food for thought to trigger some debatable responses amongst readers. Wishing everyone a promising and delectable day of love which should be celebrated throughout the 365 days of the year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
