We all know our standard December holidays, like Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, but how about the days that do not get as much recognition? Here are 7 holidays to celebrate this December.

1. Eat a Red Apple Day: Dec. 1

Maybe you see December 1 as the first day of Christmas, but really, it is Eat a Red Apple Day. So instead of eating a handful of Christmas cookies, eat a nice red apple to celebrate the first day of December.

2. Wear Brown Shoes Day: Dec. 4

December 4, also my birthday, is known as Wear Brown Shoes Day. Why brown? Who knows, but this year for my birthday, maybe I will have to celebrate by wearing a pair of brown shoes.

3. Put on Your Own Shoes Day: Dec. 6

I'm not sure who normally puts your shoes on daily, unless you are a little kid or elderly person, but December 6 is yet another holiday involving shoes, and putting on your own shoes and going out into the world. I guess this means we should make others put our shoes on for us any other day.

4. Letter Writing Day: Dec. 7

Who said letter writing was a thing of the past? On December 7 revive the old tradition by writing a letter to someone special during this holiday season.

5. Chocolate Covered Anything Day: Dec. 16

What is better than chocolate? Chocolate covered anything. On December 16, it is pretty much a free-for-all when it comes to covering anything with chocolate.

6. A'phabet or No "L" Day: Dec. 25

Apparently on the day we usually celebrate Christmas, other people are not using the letter L. That could make a real interesting conversation with your relatives at Christmas dinner.

7. Make Up Your Mind Day: Dec 31

If you are sitting on a decision, especially for the new year, December 31 is the day to make up your mind about it. What a better way to start 2018 then to make up your mind about important things in your life?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
