Is college the best four years of your life? That's up for debate. However, if one thing's for sure it's definitely one of the most transformative times in anyone's life.
1. If you don’t make time for your wellness you will pay for it, with interest
Your professors and orientation presentations will try to emphasize the importance of self-care from the start, and if you're anything like me you will roll your eyes and think you are above it. It's only until you've pushed yourself past your limit and end up too sick to go to class, or too mentally burnt out to function, that you will realize that you should have taken them more seriously. The irony is since you chose to avoid taking a few extra hours out of your day to decompress, exercise, or sleep- you're now days behind. After this happens, you will be humbled and start carving time out for yourself.
2. You were more naive than you thought
This is especially true if you came from a sheltered or small town, and shifted into a diverse environment. In college, you will be exposed to backgrounds and ways of thinking that you have never experienced. You will also realize what it's like to function without your family holding your hand. The first time you're sick and you don't have mom doting on you, you realize how rough the real world is. The world is so much bigger than what you have known and you start to understand that you didn't know how much you don't know.
3. Friends aren't always for forever
It's all apart of growing. Friendships with your high school friends will either evolve or go to extinction. The same applies to the friends you make during college. Heck, you could have a different friend group each semester- which is the perfect leeway into the next point...
4. You will be a completely different person in the span of a semester

With all the novel experiences and plethora of firsts you are going to face in college, you discover new things about yourself constantly. One semester makes all the difference.
5. Family is everything
Throughout the entire college process, from the transition from high school to college until your graduation, you may find yourself gaining a newfound appreciation for your family. They stay constant through the chaos and are there for you in a way only your family can be.
6. Happiness is a mindset
If there's one thing that can be counted on it's that there will always some kind of stress to deal with. Instead of waiting for it to disappear, you learn to find the happy moments within the stressful times and appreciate them. You may find that your stress management skills increase drastically.
