As my freshman year came to an end this past spring I had to make the decision as to where I wanted to live for my sophomore year of college. Living 10 minutes away from my school definitely made the decision to stay on campus a lot harder but in the end I knew I wanted to be on campus again. Even if it meant student debts (I'll regret this in 4 years). I gathered my 3 best friends and the four of us decided upon getting an on campus apartment for our sophomore year.
After roommate and rooming selections came to an end we were placed in an apartment that we were not happy with. The logistics of it sounded awesome: 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a living room. While all of that is fine and dandy, the actual quality of the apartment was lacking any signs of life. The apartment seemed dark and honestly depressing. We knew that since we were stuck with this for a whole school year, we needed to do some major decorating.
And so the research began. After hours of scrolling through Pinterest boards, rummaging through home decor stores, and lots of online shopping we believe that we can take this apartment from 0 to 100 this year.
If you are anything like me then the quality of the apartment, dorm, or house you are living in is crucial to your success during the school year. If I'm unhappy with my living environment I lose all motivation. So if you, like me, will have a total meltdown at the sight of a dull and bleak apartment you have come to the right place.
Use wooden crates for storage and stands.

This idea comes from hours of searching through Pinterest boards. This easy and cheap hack can instantly add an aesthetic touch to a sad apartment. Replace a tv stand with four stacked wine crates and then this can double as storage and a stand.
Contact paper
Nothing screams, "I'm old!" like a dirty white refrigerator. This hack will make your kitchen look completely new with minimal effort. Contact paper is reasonably priced and can be used to turn a dirty looking fridge or shelves into looking like stainless steal. Plus it is removable so you won't be charged for decorating your fridge. Another cool idea would be to add chalk contact paper. This can give your apartment a real homey look to it and saves wall space instead of having to hang up a white board.
Peel and stick tile
Okay, this one may be a little more expensive and a little more work but definitely worth it all. Use these peel and stick tiles to make an old dingy bathroom look brand new.
Command Strips will be your best friend.
Since you can't make any holes in the wall Command Strips are your next best option. These may look cheap but I promise they will hold all year round. Use these to hang up anything from wall art to shower caddies to curtains.
Add greenery wherever you can.
Nothing will wake up a dull and lifeless apartment like plants. Adding small plants to countertops and coffee tables will wake any room up and make it a little more cozy.
Add rugs to cover up ugly flooring.
There's nothing a fluffy rug can't fix.
Use baskets to hold blankets.

This aesthetically pleasing hack will keep your tiny apartment from looking messy. While blankets laying around don't look bad per say, they will cramp up an already tiny living room.
