We've all been there. We've all been in situations where an outcome seems hopeless. We've all been in situations where it seems like God isn't even there, or He isn't even listening to our prayers.
It's in these times that we have to cling to God the most. When there's so much uncertainty in our lives, we have to put all our hope in God.
There are many passages in Scripture that point to God's comfort for us during the storms we face in life. In Genesis 9, God makes a promise with Noah and gives the earth the rainbow as a symbol of this promise. Every time I look at a rainbow, especially following a thunderstorm, I think about how much God has done for me and how He has provided for me in the midst of the storms in my life. In those moments, I am reminded of a song by Elevation Worship called "Do It Again." It's a good listen, and I encourage all to listen to it.
Another passage that shows God's comfort in the midst of life's storms is Psalm 23. It even directly talks about walking through the darkness. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and your staff- they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4). This passage shows us that no matter what situations we face in life, we can have full confidence knowing that our comfort and strength is in Christ alone. He is the Good Shepherd.
The final key Scripture I want to focus on is Psalm 91. Though I will briefly touch on it in this article, this passage of Scripture will be the key focus of my next article, in which I will talk about the tornado that hit campus one year ago. This passage often referred to as the "Military's Prayer," talks about the protection God gives us (hence why it will be the focus of the next article). In the midst of life's storms, we can have full confidence that God will bring us through and protect us.
What Psalm 91 means is, though storms and bad things may come our way, we will be protected by "the protection of the Highest" (Psalm 91:1). We can have that, in any situation we face, God ultimately has our best interests in mind. Though things may not always pan out the way we want, in the midst of storms, we can have full confidence that God does not break His promises. He listens to us. 1 Peter 5:7 assures us of this fact: "Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares about you."
No matter what we face in life, we have full confidence that God will always be there to guide us through. I encourage all who read this to read the passages I mentioned and dwell on them, praying that God will give you the confidence to trust in Him in the midst of life's storms.
My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the EF-4 tornado in Beauregard and Smith Station in Lee County.
