It doesn't make sense at first, to not want Trump's impeachment. He's an awful person and an awful president, don't get me wrong. But he is the only person keeping Mtich Mcconnell and Mike Pence from having a field day.
House Democrats want to impeach, or rather at least start an investigation, Trump because of his many charges. Most recently, Trump forced Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden's son. Trump did so by withholding aid.
The fact is, even Republicans no longer have the patience for Trump, who has no regard for procedure, and never listens to his advisors. He's unpredictable. But, Mike Pence is the perfect pawn for the party. A man from Indiana, he is the ultimate candidate whom Republicans can control, and who can execute many of their conservative policies. Republicans would have full ammunition to do whatever they wanted, with precision.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined the train when she supported impeaching Trump. I don't doubt that Trump is not above the law, but it seems too late for me to take this seriously. Was he above the law when he left the Paris Accords? Was he above the law when he tried to take money from the nation's Emergency Fund to build the wall? Was he above the law when he basically blackmailed state governments to hand over "illegal residents" through an executive order on "sanctuary cities"? My point is: why now? Nothing he has done before has caused this much backlash. Why is it that when a President causes issues with a western ally -- since this wasn't the case for U.S.-Mexico relations -- our leaders feel like they must spring into action against injustice. Yet, when women have their reproductive rights taken away from them, when migrant children are torn away from their families, these events warrant little action.
Congress, I have been calling for your action for far too long. Now, you wish to impeach a president at the risk of having Mike Pence in office? Your efforts are far too explosive, far too late.
I hope I made it clear that America never really voted for Trump. Congress did. The Electoral College did. At least, let us decide when this president should be outed.
