When the sun is shining and the air is warm, there is nothing better than spending time outdoors. What better way to spend a day (or a few) outside than to take a hike through the woods, near a stream, or over mountain tops. There is something so relaxing about being immersed in nature, away from technology and humans; It's an essential time to reset. Luckily, no matter where you live, there is a hiking trail not far from you. Here's a list of the best hikes on the East Coast.
1. Connecticut- Mattabest Trail
One of Connecticut's best known trails is this one, and for good reason. Go in the fall for an array of oranges, reds and yellows straight from a work of art.
2. Delaware- White Clay Creek
This beautiful trail offers shady trails and water views for the perfect and relaxing hike.
3. Florida- Ancient Hammock Trail
This trail is just over half a mile, but is filled with luscious trees and plants to make for a scenic and tropical stroll.
4. Georgia- Blood Mountain Loop
This trail makes up just a portion of the Appalachian trail, and provides outstanding summit views. If you're feeling adventurous, continue to Maine as a through hiker on the Appalachian.
5. Maine- Knife Edge Trail
This hike is one of many sections of the Appalachian Trail. Though it is only a mile, the Knife Edge trail is difficult, so go prepared.
6. Maryland- Patapsco Valley State Park
Streams, hills, and history fill the Patapsco State Park's trails with wonder. My favorite part of the Patapsco is either the swinging bridge or the old train bridge, as well as the peace and quiet you can find just minutes from Baltimore.
7. Massachusetts- Bash Bish Falls
Something about waterfalls is mesmerizing to me, which is why the Bash Bish Falls is a must for a Massachusetts hike. With over eight waterfalls to view, this one is for anyone and everyone who wants to experience cascading views.
8. New Hampshire- The Bonds Traverse
Gorgeous rolling hills turn into small mountains that offer amazing views. The Bond's Traverse also features amazing bluffs and overlooks.
9. New Jersey- Tripod Rock
A massive boulder precariously balanced on three tiny rocks is an amazing view worth hiking to. On clear days though, it is rumored New York City is visible from Tripod Rock.
10. New York- Watkins Glen State Park Gorge Trail
Hiking on mountain tops is great, but everyone does that. Watkins Glen state park offers a hike just over a mile within a gorge. While hiking this you will be transported to a rainforest atmosphere and waterfall views.
11. Pennsylvania- Meadow Run Trail
Surprisingly, the East Coast is home to an abundance of hidden waterfalls, like the ones found on the Meadow Run trail in Pennsylvania. This easy hike is a great stroll for someone wanting to relax next to rushing waters.
12. Rhode Island- Long and Ell Pond Hike
The terrain is rocky, but nature was nice enough to form makeshift staircases on this trail. Long and Ell Pond trails are the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle and into the woods.
13. Virginia- Shenandoah National Park
Featuring over 500 miles of trails, Shenandoah has a hike for everyone. This park is known for its amazing views and overlooks, as well as cascading waterfalls and wooded spaces.
