Top 5: 5 Seconds of Summer Songs

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) is an all pop-rock band from Sydney, Australia. The band, which formed back in 2011, consists of four members: Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin.

This Australian Band began its career on YouTube, posting song covers before releasing two EP’s, Unplugged and Somewhere New. However, their music career “rose to fame” when they joined One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour. Since then, they have released two albums, with a third one that is soon to be released.

With 5SOS making a comeback, as they took time between their second and upcoming third album, here are my Top 5: 5 Seconds of Summer Songs.

5. Want You Back:

"wish I could say something
something that doesn't sound insane
but lately, I don't trust my brain.."
..
"no matter where I go
i'm always gonna want you back.."

This is the latest 5 Seconds of Summer song to be released, and the songs new sound makes me incredibly excited for the bands upcoming third album. This particular song is about a break-up. It is about wanting back that one specific person, as well as all of the memories that were created. It is about constantly having that one specific person on your mind, not being able to focus on anything else. This is only a small taste of the bands new direction for their third album, and I am totally here for what is to come!

4. Heartbreak Girl:

"... and I end up lying,
'cause I'm just a sucker for anything that you do.."
..
"i'm right here, when you gonna realize?
that i'm your cure, heartbreak girl?"

This song is definitely an oldie, but still a goodie. Unlike Want You Back, this one is about being in love with someone who, unfortunately, doesn’t reciprocate the same feelings. However, not wanting to lose the friendship that is there, one continues to do everything in their power to help them - even when, in the end, it hurts them the most. In other words, it is about wanting to be THAT person for someone, yet being stuck in that friendship-circle-only.

3. Long Way Home:

"remember all the memories?
the fireflies and make-believe.."
..
"i wanna get lost and drive forever with you,
talkin' 'bout nothing, yeah, whatever, baby
so we're taking the long way home tonight.."

This one makes it into my “Top Three” simply because I can picture having this song on full blast during a road trip. Besides being incredibly catchy, I absolutely love this song because it reminds me to treasure memories, big and small. It reminds me to live in the moment - something that I believe is always a well-needed reminder. After all, we only have one life. Thus, we need to treasure and enjoy it.

2. Jet Black Heart:

"see a war, I wanna fight it
see a match, I wanna strike it
every fire i've ignited
faded to gray.."
..
"'cause i've got a jet black heart
and there's a hurricane underneath it
trying to keep us apart.."

One of the reasons as to why I absolutely love 5 Seconds of Summer is, in part, because of the genuine honesty that their songs portray. They aren’t simply about love and heartbreak, and Jet Black Heart is a clear example of that. Personally, to me, this song is about dealing with one’s own personal issues, such as Mental Health. These “demons,” as the song says, sometimes taken control of us, but, as time passes, these “demons” go away, especially if one is surrounded by positive energy and love.

1. Amnesia:

"sometimes I start to wonder, was it just a lie?
if what we had was real, how could you be fine?"
..
"i wish that I could wake up with amnesia
and forget about the stupid little things
like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
and the memories that I never can escape..
'cause i'm not fine at all.."
This is, without a doubt, my favorite 5 Seconds of Summer song. Much like some of the other songs, this one is about trying to get over a heartbreak, despite constantly being reminded of the feelings and memories of a relationship that now no longer exists. It is about admitting that you are not okay, and knowing that this feeling is completely normal. Perhaps what sticks out the most within’ this song is, not only the lyrics, but the songs soothing melody. To a certain extent, it gives hope that, while it may not be fine right now, it will be in the end.

Much like any band, 5 Seconds of Summer has stolen thousands of girls hearts. With their charming looks and songs, have they now stolen yours?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
