In the constant land of sequels, reboots, spin-offs, and series, many of us will definitely be putting time in at our local move theatres this year. This is especially true for the house the mouse built. This is going to be a huge year for Disney. Below are just a few offerings as to what the entertainment giant has in store for us in 2017.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
The final chapter in the Pirates franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales is looking up to be both a reunion and a tearful conclusion to everyone's favorite rum-infused captain. Rumors of several key members of the original cast abound, including Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. Whether they make it to the screen is yet to be shown. All we know for sure is this is the FINAL movie in which we can catch Captain Jack Sparrow. Set sail for to the theatre for the final time May 26. 2017.
4. Thor: Ragnarok
Another concluding chapter in Disney's lineup comes from Marvel, with their last chapter in the saga of Thor. This time around, Thor must fight his way across the Galaxy, without his hammer, to make it back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok (the apocalypse). Standing in his way, however, is a former ally: The Hulk. The fate of Asgard can be seen on theatre screens November 3, 2017.
3. Star Wars: Episode 8
Following the tradition that Disney loves involving episodic sequels, Episode 8 continues the adventures of Finn and Rey as they adjust to their new positions within the Rebellion. It also gives us more input into what Luke Skywalker has been up to for so long. Unfortunately, it is also the final time that we will be graced by Carrie Fisher's on-screen presence as General Leia. Make sure to buy a ticket and pay respects when Episode 8 releases December 15, 2017.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
Following up on their surprise hit, Marvel is also releasing the 2nd film in their Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Following the events of the first film, the sequel will focus more on Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) search for his long-lost father. Also, there's Baby Groot (adorably still played by Vin Diesel). Prepare to again be Hooked On A Feelin' when the film releases May 5, 2017.
1. Beauty and the Beast
With the rampant success of Disney's attempts at redoing their classics in live action format comes the next attempt, and this one takes the cake for having the most hype. With an all-star cast, Disney outdoes themselves again with their oncoming new version of Beauty and the Beast. Featuring Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and many more, this remake is looking up be the surefire hit of 2017. Only cause to worry is the Beauty And The Beast duet being redone by John Legend and Ariana Grande, but that's to be-determined. Come Be Our Guest again March 17, 2017.
