1. Seeing your school empty is like dreaming everyone is dead
Everyone goes home. All freshmen. Walking around is depressing. If you want to just sleep and do homework all break then this could be for you, but from experience, you’ll miss home, your family, and your friends.
2. The act that you don’t miss anything at home no longer makes you “cool”
It is completely normal to miss your parents, siblings, pets, your BED and just your hometown in general. Don’t deny this feeling and miss your opportunity to catch up with the life you left behind.
3. Watching snap stories of other people at home make you no longer like said people
They get to eat a New York slice of Pizza or a BEC -no way! Life will seem unfair that you are stuck on a deserted campus and others are with their puppy in their not dorm bed. They will take showers with no shoes on and watch tv with their family. All the things you miss and want most.
4. Explaining to your mom how much you wish you were home is an automatic cry sesh
“I have made a mistake; get me on the next flight home.” This will be said more than once over break. You will call your mom more than often because you are mad that everyone else gets to hug their parents and you have to settle for emotional and sad FaceTime calls.
5. Realizing the social scene in your college town is non-existent during breaks makes you want to drink alone
“Who’s having a party tonight?” The answer is probably one place and there will be maybe 20 people there. “Let’s go to the bars?” There are more actual adults than college kids for the first time ever. More loneliness.
6. Looking for something to do and resorting to homework or finding spray paint (don’t ask) is never worth the late night
You still stay up late trying to have a fun break but honestly catching up on sleep would be much more worthwhile. On your 20th episode of whatever show you are watching you may yearn to be productive - it won’t happen.
7. Home cooked meals will be on your mind until Thanksgiving
You missed this chance for home cooked meals. Grilled chicken and veggies will have to wait, but it won't stay off your mind - trust me!
8. The library is TOO quiet; it’s distracting
Everyone is simply doing work. Who can get anything done in that kind of environment? Just some more of the silence and loneliness of break
9. Eating at an empty dining hall is more depressing than eating in a full one alone
While it is sad to eat alone in a big crowded dining hall it is far better than eating in a completely empty dining hall. The difference is the presence of people V.S. you guessed it – loneliness.
10. You will count down for break to end instead of wishing it will last forever
Can’t wait for all my friends to get back and forget about the fact that I didn't go home for fall break and I regret it more than anything!
